1- Does raising the anchor just happen for free

2- MAP 40 states ( all ranged attacks on this level suffer -1 range and - 1 damage unless aimed )

3- is a breath attck from a hellhound considered ranged or magic?

1. No. You must still man the anchor station (costs 3MP when standing in the space. However it is automatically successful if you are trying to raise the anchor.

2. No, magic attacks are not ranged attacks. Range has two uses and both are nouns. One is the type of attack, the other is the distance required for an attack. Descent does not use range as an adjective AFAICR.

3. It is a Ranged attack. Look at the symbol on the hellhound card before the dice symbols. The dice (blue, for ranged) is also a strong indicator although there is at least one example of the dice not matching the attack type (Golems roll white dice for a melee attack).

Really? Since when? Or is this a change in the campaign expansions? They certainly don't in the vanilla stats.

Yes.

It's been so long since I saw a vanilla Golem I'd forgotten that it was a change, but I just checked both vanilla and RtL/SoB cards and a change it is.

Hmm. How odd.

I can't imagine why they changed them. It's not like Golems ever did much damage anyway, and the switch would seem to achieve nothing beyond breaking an otherwise consistent rule (alright, Soulbiter excepted, but that's another bizarre, aparently-motiveless departure).

In a post from Kevin Wilson, he stated it was switched due to a balance issue. And, in a way, the Golems do fit into the category very well, they are supposed to be being summoned from magic.

Hmmm, how very odd. What possible balance issue could there have been? Golems weren't dealing crappy enough damage already? They weren't gimp enough to begin with? gran_risa.gif Well I suppose they know what they're doing up there at FFG......well sort of.

Breath attack from hellhound is a magic attack, at least that's what i see in that symbol. The blue dice is there to reduce the attack damage, it still has at least pierce.

Maybe you have a very rare and valuable misprint?

Both my vanilla and RtL hellhounds have blue circles with a bow and arrow inside - the Ranged Attack type symbol, printed on the card.

+1

Yeah you're right. Maybe i need glasses :)

Anyway i don't think it should be considered a range attack in this map , you don't actually calculate the range for the attack . It's not like you can use the breath template 4 or 5 spaces away from the hellhound.

That is irrelevant. It is still a Ranged Attack and suffers -1 range and -1 damage on this map. Note that the -1 range has no effect, but it still counts.
