Any point of using Tie Bombers in 2.0?

Seems like everyones forgotten this iconic ship.

Wish it had something interesting. I mean, at least for punishers in 1.0 I can load them all up with Tragedy Simulators and Proton Bombs.

Any point in making threads like this when you don't know how much more a Punisher costs than a Bomber?

Deathfire, Major Ryhmer, and Tomax all qualify as interesting to me. And every one of them can do some pretty nifty stuff with that nimble bomber ability especially with Bombardier crew.

Tie Bombers look like good bombers in 2.0 and also good ordinance platforms in general with reload. I don't know if they will be good but they should be playable.

They're pretty good. The ability to take Long Range Scanners on a 16 point chassis allows you to pack a double-modified Harpoon Missile in 20 points, which makes them a credible threat to...well...anything, really, whilst if you want sustained fighting power, for the same price Unguided Rockets and Lightweight Frame gives you effective raw stats of 3 red/3 green/6 hits that is - at least at first glance when squinting - comparable to the TIE defender or Silencer.

What they don't do terribly well at the moment (and I accept this) is drop bombs.

Until we know slots and cost, we simply don't know.

Personally I think Major Rhymer looks really good. The ability to block a ship flying as part of a tight formation, deny them their action, mess up their formation and then shoot cluster missiles into them and their wingman could be huge.

its niche now, no other ship can:
you can drop banking mines.
deathfire can attack AND drop a mine when die.
captain jonus can reroll own missiles, too

It all comes down to cost doesn't it? As the devs have stated that the bomber has seen a cost reduction, I'm hopeful that they are priced aggressively and we will see more bombers on the table.

At the very least, they won't be costing Rhymer crazy expensive anymore.

The TIE Striker now has a bomb-slot!!

What are you talking about?

It has a linked action. The ONLY two dedicated ordnance carriers with Linked actions that are relevant to ordnance are the Bomber and the Punisher.

You can no longer roll/boost and lock with just anyone. Plus they have WHITE repositions natively. They are nimble. (Plus the bomber has a ship ability, unavailable to others).

Now. I'm not saying they will be competitive, I don't know their costs, and the "imperial ships can equip multiple modifications" seems like a dud, since most modifications suck and are extremely situational, with the exception of Afterburners and Stealth device (which are probably expensive).

But they are interesting.

They can do stuff no-one else can, they can equip barrage rockets (which has exactly 0 synergy with them, but hey... at least they can), and they are probably cheaper.

If I read the card correctly, and assuming the Bomber can take the upgrade, the experienced bomber crew thing let's you drop a bomb 1 speed greater, and the TIE Bomber can use th bank maneuver to drop a bomb, so I think they could use 2 banks to drop?

If that's how it works that sounds pretty cool to me.

i'm fairly sure the bomber won't get a gunner slot.

It has the ship ability to counteract the lack of bombing options.

We got the Bombardier card because of the Striker, which canonically has an extra person sitting there. And the Decimator also has bombs. Fifth Brother will only be able to sit on the Aggressor, Decimator or Striker.

This way every ship with access to bombs will also have access to a "special way" of launching bombs, either via Trajectory Simulator (Punisher, *Havoc, Resistance bomber), Bombardier (Y-Wing, K-Wing, Deci) or Ship ability (Bomber)

So unless you have a legit source, don't spread misinformation. I've seen this rumour several places in the forums, but nobody has a source.

If the bomber has a gunner slot, then yes that works.

But as has been mentioned several times, it is questionable whether it will.

It specifies the system phase, so no combo with other timing cards (Genius), and specifies Bomb, so no other devices.

I'd actually be sort of happy if we got the TIE Shuttle as an entirely different SKU. The pods on the TIE Shuttle look different, as do the wings, and it would be nice to have the TIE Shuttle have a different dial, action bar, and baked-in ability.
