What effect, if any, does the Power-stat on a Support card have when it's in the Battlefield zone?

The rules seem to imply it will affect damage in some way, but I can't see a mechanism for how that would work.

A Support card, such as a building, in the battlefield contributes nothing with its power. Only the text may be useful.
