Damage deck legality in 2.0

By tsondaboy, in X-Wing

Sorry if this is asked before, but will we be able to use the 1.0 damage deck when 2.0 comes out?
If not, is there a way to get a 2.0 damage deck other than getting the new core set?

No; and no.

Edit: Maybe, to the second. People who pre-order get a special X-Wing-themed damage deck, so they might sell the actual deck that comes in the core set itself. Maybe . Personally, I'd keep it as a back up.

So in other words in order to play 2.0 you are required to get the core set on top of the conversion kits?

Yes.

Question answered thank you.

You'd have to check with retailers and so forth, but preorders of 2e Core Sets come with an alt-art Damage Deck. As a result, many folks will probably wind up with two decks per one core set. That's secondary market stuff, or bartering with friends, but still.

True, but you also need at least a few of the new templates (You can probably get by with just a lined 1-straight and put it on top of turn templates for tallon rolls, but a full set will make things easier), and the unique cards in the core set including Luke, R2-D2, and Iden Versio are not found in the Conversion kit. So buying a spare damage deck and some new acryllic templates would probably suffice (particularly if you're going to focus solely on Scum, Resistance, or First Order), but you'd still miss content.

Tentatively yes, you could buy a deck separately in the second hand market, but it is intended you buy the new core set with a new game. It has the rules, new templates, and all the necessary tokens you need to play. I think most will find the effort needed to acquire these things outside of buying a core set not worth the hassle (but it could be done).

Yes. 2.0 is a new game in its own right. It is the successor to 1.0; not an "expansion pack" for want of a better term.

All that said, I am sure e-Bay sellers will be buying core sets (and conversion kits) and selling the parts individually. When I lost a couple of my cards from my old FA core damage deck, I got a new one that way. Do wish they would offer it separately just for those of use who lose cards, but...

In addition to the Damage Deck and center-line maneuver templates, the new Core Set will also contain some pilots and upgrades that aren't in the Conversion Kits.

Yeah, like Force upgrades.

I'll sell you my 2.0 damage deck for $35.00 US.

I would need two damage decks, so that pre-order bonus is really sweet for me and saves me another whole core set.

We can do with one template set (next to the 6 we already have...). Especially because the obstacles from 1.0 are still usable, right? Other than the damage deck and the obstacles, I'm not sure what else I could possibly need twice

in order to play the game, you have to buy the game.

So dumb question, can I get the extra damage deck if I preorder through my FLGS? Or do I have to go straight through FFG?

Each shop is different. My LGS on one side of town isn't going to have the extra deck, on the other side of town they will (with pre order of course).

I think it is going to be highly dependent on the relationship of the LGS and the LGS's distributor. I trust the LGS to provide the deck for my pre-order. I don't think I trust the distributor to supply the decks to the LGS.
