2e Focus and Calculate

By Ccwebb, in X-Wing Rules Questions

1e Focus token changes all focus results to positive. (Hit or evade)

Does the focus token do the same thing in 2e? What about the calculate token; I thought I read where it only changes one die result, not all.

Focus works the same as in 1e. Calculate (and Force tokens) change one eyeball. In compensation many of the Calculate ship can get multiple calc tokens for a single action.

Alsobthe rule about only spending one token for it's default effect per opportunity no longer applies. 2 calcs can make 2 eyes into 2 hits in one attack.

Awesome. Thank you.

Wierd that calculate is sub par of focus.

Well, you wouldn't expect a droid to be as good at anticipating situations on the fly, as a biological being would... hence, calculate is less effective. BUT, since many calculating ships get double calculate tokens, that lets them do a less effective job, more often.

Also, consider that in most situations (mathematically), you'll only end up with a single focus result on any given die roll. Except when you've got 4 attack dice and don't have a focus token, or need one evade result on a range 3 defense with autothrusters... that's when you roll four eyes.

Very good point. Thank you

Calculate also has the opportunity to give the user the ability to change 1 eye result in attack and 1 eye result in defense. where as a focus token you will have to choose which way to use the token.

Once you use a Calculate token it goes away. You don’t keep it.

You are right but if you have 2 calculate tokens you can use 1 for the attack eye result and 1 for the evade eye result. where as it can be difficult / rare to get 2 focus tokens in one round.

Sorry I wasn't fully clear.

Yes, there are more pilots who can stack Calculate tokens than Focus tokens. That seems to be why they made it worse than Focus, so they could play around with abilities like that for droids.

We don't know this for sure. In fact, the rule for Force tokens explicitly mentions it's legal to spend multiple but the rule for Calculate tokens does not.

We don't know for absolutely sure until the rules ref but Alex confirmed this one at Euros so I'm 99%
