Seraphim as an Ascended Career...?

By Cailieg, in Dark Heresy

Does anyone else feel as though Seraphim should have been in the Ascension book?

Crusader and Hierophant both seem a little lackluster to me as Ascended paths for a Sister. As a matter of fact many of the Ascended Careers are just lackluster in general and some are out and out xp sinks. I think its time for some homebrew lovin!

I guess I will write it up and post it for peaching.

Not Seraphim, IMO - they're already covered by a few of the skills and talents in the Elohim rank of the existing path (which also covers other specialists, like the members of Dominion and Retributor squads). However, Celestians aren't covered by the career path, and narratively sit above pretty much every other form of Sister Militant.

One thing to consider, though; whether Seraphim or Celestian, such a path would really only cover Sisters Militant; Sisters Hospitaller and Sisters Diagolous/Famulous would be better suited looking elsewhere.

A post I put in another thread about Ascencion pretty much says the same. I am moderately happy with Hierophant and Crusader representing some of the other Sisters, but Celestians or Seraphim would be a great addition either way I am going to work on something for the Sisters.

Agreed. The normal DH progression for Sisters of the Militant Path covers all the Skills and Talents you need for a Seraphim, except maybe for the Pilot (Jump-pack) +10 and +20 (can't remember off-hand). It's just that BL/FFG failed to give us rules for jump-packs, at least until Rogue Trader came out.

But I'd still like to see what you come up with, Caileg. gui%C3%B1o.gif

My Sister is aspiring to Interrogator status when our campaign starts up again... Crusader and Hierophant just don't fit Ophilia narratively. But a separate Seraphim or other Sister-specific rank would be a great improvement.

I'm curious what sort of advances the proposed Seraphim ascended career would focus on. A Hierophant with the Wrath of the Emperor ability seems like a good fit for a militant canonnes to me. If the focus on melee particularly bothers you then I'm sure you could substitute a of the melee advances for shooting related ones. Though perhaps an altered version of the Stormtrooper career might be better, eschewing the religious leader side of things and focusing purely on the scourging and purging.

If your Ascended Sister wishes to "just" kick heretic butt with Warhound Titan shoes might I suggest the Stormtrooper career path. FFG has come right out and said that the names are meant to be evocative more than literal... So rename it. With GM approval you could probably swap out the special Hellgun bonuses for either Bolters or Flamers.

Plan B could also be to "ascend" into an Arch Militant from Rogue Trader, though that would probably not be a perfect fit for your needs.

i agree with you and wish there would have been something a little more for the sisters. i'm just thinking out loud but would have a Canoness be a better fit for a Ascended career? i admit my knowledge on the Sisters of Battle is very very limited.

anyway i'd be interested in looking to what you create for them :)

Why not go all the way up to 11 with a "Living Saint" ascended career?

Since Sisters are a basic career, I do think they should have been covered in the Ascension book, but I thought there was something. Wasn't there a blurb in the Ascension book explaining what classes applied to them though? I don't have my books handy right now.

If not, I guess I'm mis-rememberating... :)

If so, it's not a Canoness or Seraphim career, but at least it can be converted. Why not go with Heirophant and just modify it a bit?

Perhaps the reason for not including a direct Sororitas upgrade is because of the significant amount of power they would wield then (a sisters of battle battle company at your command ?!)

Or perhaps its because the character would have to make a choice: Either stay with the sororitas, and ascend to a canoness (but no more galavanting about the sector purging heretics with the inquisitor in his inner circle) or leave them. In which case, you're more of a Hierophant or Crusader.

For some reason I have the feeling that we will see something like this at the DW level of play.

The Hierophant career incorporates the potential to become a Living Saint. The last two paragraphs of the career description use that exact term and cover visible manifestations of the Emperor's power that can only be classified as supernatural. Mercy of the Emperor, the ability to conduct faith healing by laying on hands. Combined with all the faith talents available to it it's quite possible that, should you be playing a pious character, he or she could become a Living Saint. It's simply a natural choice to do so for any Sister that enters the career.

Utilizing the information from Hierophant, and information from my Witchhunters Codex I am working on an Ascended career, two transition packages and a background package to cover the Sisters in a way I feel comfortable with.

Will take me a bout 2 weeks to do it on a nice layout with charts and art and whatnots. Once done I will post for peaching.
