Alright, I have to vent about the new size of the upgrade cards. The larger size is not a problem on its own, but having to store and organize two different sizes is proving to be a pain. I wish FFG gave us some way to trade in our small cards for the new versions. I tend to be very particular in efficiently organizing my game components and this situation is very clunky. Has anyone come up with an efficient storage solution to this? Do you think they are going to do the same thing with legion? Anyone else as unreasonably annoyed as I am?

I have a solution, but I haven't implemented it yet. That is to put all of my upgrades into card sleeves that fit the large cards. Then everything can share the same storage container fairly easily. But it's expensive, and I think (hope) it won't bother me all that much.
Here's a solution for FFG: give us an app like X-Wing 2.0 so we don't have to bring cards to the tournament. Alternatively, just print out lists so you don't need to access your cards, because if you don't need to get tjem out, it doesn't matter where or how they are stored.
I'm saying this somewhat tongue-in-cheek*. I do see the problem with storage, but I haven't yet unboxed my new Uthuk expansions, so I haven't had to confront the issue myself.
*that's an idiom for joking or not being 100% serious about what you are saying.
I really want this. Not only would it solve the problem of having to buy boxes just for upgrades, but it allows for easy balance changes. Something as simple as tweaking the point cost up or down on certain upgrades could go a long ways towards improving balance and shaking up the meta.
I actually secretly hope they go the App route with Runewars as well. They'll probably wait to see how X-wing unfolds, but it would be *really* nice to tweak some unit costs in the game. I.e. they could have made Rune Golems cheaper instead of doing the vitality token. They could make Reanimates *slightly* cheaper, and change the cost of a few upgrades that don't see a lot of use.
Here's to hoping!
I play miniature games to get away from digital things. DLC, DRM, creating accounts, large patches, servers being turned off, bugs, OS updates making apps unusable, disappearing content, updates pushed before proper play testing, and every other annoyance that I don’t have to experience with physical media. Fact is, I can still play miniature games that are two decades old. And seeing how large my paint pile is and how slowly I’m working through it, I need the game to last longer than a typical iPhone update cycle. Anything digital must be a complement to the physical experience, not a replacement for it.
Hybrid games have all the inconveniences of two mediums while lacking the absolute strengths of either.
As long as the app has a way to track which upgrades have been discarded during a match and which are currently exhausted, then I would fully support an app.
By the way -- the app doesn't replace the cards -- it only replaces the costs and the upgrade slots. printed on the cards. Once you're at the table you still use the cards normally. It's just the offline LIST BUILDING that goes digital, which I think is a great trade-off. Though I guess I am missing the points scoring at the end, you need to know the value of what was destroyed.
Anyway, I still welcome it. It's very light on the digital side. List building and end game scoring.

Honestly the app is one of the 2 biggest things I'm excited about for X-wing 2nd edition because it'll be so rare that I need to have a list of errata with me (or if there is a list, it'll be small) since the points and upgrade slots can be changed digitally at any time.
The other big thing that excites me about it is that everything is getting a rebalance + greater faction identity.
I work pretty hard most of the time to stay positive and think of the best possible outcomes for FFG's decisions.
That said, I freaking hate these giant upgrade cards.
I wouldn't have minded if they started this way, but having all my core upgrades small and new upgrades huge is going to drive me nuts.

That's not a bug, it's a feature!
With no preannouncement, I’m annoyed. I’ve got a pretty decent investment in small card support. That’s no going to be weird with new packs going forward. If they did a large upgrade generic pack, I’d buy it though.

I literally just finally bought a full display box of the yellow sleeves, figuring "of COURSE I'll use all these!"
Thanks, FFG. Thanks.
