For three days the Muerte Blanca had held out against the waves of stormtroopers, and light imperial armour that the Empire managed to get onto planet at the start of the conflict, massively outnumbered and outgunned, only the hardened veterans of this fierce fighting unit remained alive after such a sustained onslaught.
Sometime during the Third night the attacks ceased suddenly and the soldiers heard silence for the first time in days.
As the distant sun the gave the planet it familiar dull orange dawn hue that seldom penetrates the planets seemingly endless horizon of drifting snow and freezing mists, a huge rumble like deep thunder, followed by the unmistakable triangular shape of an Isd breaking the skyline and descending down, Bombarding the position held by embattled marines with devastating effect as swarms of service ships burst from its docking bays, delivering the next wave of troops and now heavy armour into the theatre. The Muerte Blanca knew this was a battle even they could not win.
The Leader of the Meurte Blanca Podracer bellowed out to his Troops. ‘We must leave now and journey across the Great Lake. I know an old Bunker 6 days journey away, There is a ship there that will get us off this Planet’ Pod Reaches for a map from his front pocket, unfolds it and Identifies clearly the spot he wants his remaining Officers and NCO’s to rally upon.
No sooner is it done then a huge explosion rocks the battered emplacement and Pod is crushed beneath a huge chunk of reinforced concrete, with just his two arms pointing out from beneath the Grey slab just visible through the choking dust one holding the map, the other clenched pointing to the horizon beyond.
The Grizzled troops barely have time to flinch before more and more of the command bunker begins to collapse over them. The surviving fighters grab as much kit and supply from the rubble as fast as they can, and scramble into the tunnel that will lead them out to the shores of the great Ice lake..
However no journey across the lake is without risk.
Some risks you can anticipate, others you cannot.
