Be careful not to choke on Yorr Aspirations...

By RelativeShoe, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Yorr Aspirations (99)

Whisper - TIE Phantom (32)

Veteran Instincts (1), Advanced Sensors (3), Director Krennic (5), Advanced Cloaking Device (4), Optimised Prototype

Ship Total: 45

Captain Yorr - Lambda-Class Shuttle (24)

Targeting Scrambler (0), General Hux (5), Inspiring Recruit (1), Tractor Beam (1), Tactical Jammer (1)

Ship Total: 32

Countdown - TIE Striker

Advanced Ailerons (0), Targeting Computer (2)

Ship Total: 22

Thinking of this for Store Champs. Hux might actually be better than Palp, as he allows for Inspiring Recruit to dump stress. On the joust Whisper can Advanced Sensors an evade, bump behind Yorr and be defending with five or six dice, focus and evade and attacking with four dice, target lock (after one round), focus and shield stripping. Countdown can always attack with target lock, focus and Fanatical Devotion, and will always take four shots to kill for only 22 points, if Yorr takes the stress. Yorr can Hux and take two stress for Countdown's ability, then Countdown can take the third. After that his ability's irrelevant. And if your opponent puts themselves in a position where you can, Tractor Beam and Fanatical Devotion on Yorr can dump an ace onto a rock with the unblockable hit. Scrambler over Collision Detector is a coin toss. Haven't flown it yet, but looking to get some testing in on the table before Saturday. Any thoughts?

Put this on the table last night and it hits like a truck. I definitely think Hux is better than Palp for this particular build, although I'm not sure whether the maths would bear that out. Not yet come up against Jam, hoping to test that out this evening.

That sounds like a fun list. I feel like there could be some good Hux and Krennic list combos

I love it. I'm often a fan of placing Krennic on a different Ship than Whisper, giving whisper FCS, the condition, and a different crew, to get a bit more utility out of whisper and an extra TL out of her attack, but here, I think she can carry him herself. It looks brutal and very reliable. Bravo sir

I actually think Kylo or Quickdraw would be better wingmates for pure efficiency, but flying Whisper is SO MUCH FUN. And yeah, with Krennic on board she's a monster if you fly her right.

Ran this at the Cardiff Store Champs and went 2-3 in the five games I played (I finished 3-3 with a bye). The first matchup was RAC and Quickdraw at PS10 and PS11, which is a terrible matchup. I lost that, and the second match, where I managed to park Whisper in front of a bunch of Harpoons on the second turn. Putting that one down to my inexperience with the list (and the game in general), as on paper I should have won it. I didn't run into any TLTs, thankfully, as I assume they'd still eat Whisper alive.

Familiarity led to better results, as I won my next two games (including one against Such An X-Wing Hipster's Phil GC!) and lost my final game on the last dice roll to a Reaper, Striker, Quickdraw and Academy TIE list.

Overall I loved the list. I'm definitely going to fly it up until Nationals to make sure I get the reps in. I might drop the Tractor Beam to upgrade Advanced Sensors to Sensor Jammer on Whisper. This should improve my chances against PS10 and PS11s, as they won't have Expertise; but being able to take actions and then bump or K-turn did prove useful a few times on Saturday. Beyond that, I don't think I'd make any other alterations.

Highly reccomend upgrading to Sensor Jammer if you can. I was also running Whisper (with Krennic) at Cardiff and ended up 6th after swiss, and the Sensor Jammer was a major factor in a couple of games, and useful in all but one (where I was facing two expertise ships). Completely stifled the Y-wing tlts I faced to the point Whisper never took any damage all game, and was part of the reason she survived the RAC/QD matchup in round 6. Ironically Advanced Sensors would have been better in the top 4 game I lost since I could have avoided the block that Whisper died to. ?

Congratulations on getting Top 4! What was the rest of your list?

I tried Sensor Jammer for the first time last night in a casual game with my housemate. Flew Whisper like a chump, and missed the trigger on Sensor Jammer early on which contributed to her downfall, but I can definitely see the potential. I think it's a list I'm going to run with for a while now, as my inexperience is definitely the big thing holding it back. Out of interest, how do you tend to fly Whisper? Do you flank with her? Hold her back until the end game? Dive in?

Thanks! The entire list was:

Whisper with Veteran Instincts, Sensor Jammer, Krennic, Advanced Cloaking Device

Omega Leader with A Score to Settle

Scarif Base Pilot with Advanced Ailerons and Palpatine.

97 points

The Sensor Jammer is especially good when you've got the Reaper flying around jamming enemy ships and starving them of focus tokens. It's just a shame Palp takes up two crew slots or I'd throw an ISB Slicer on there to double down on Jam - it really is that good. I like to flank initially with Whisper, though I'm actually still learning how to player her myself. I had 2 games with this list before the event and other than that I'd only ever played the Phantom in one game before.
