I think some people sometimes forget that while the conversion kits will give us the ability to fly all our favorite craft from the get-go, it doesn't mean we'll have all the cool toys for them prior to the ship's actual release.

This is totally true, and most of the time I remember this, but I got ahead of myself with the TIE Shuttle comment. I still think there is a chance that TIE shuttle doesn't make it to Second Edition, but that's just wild speculation. Also wild speculation: Lightweight Frame won't make it to Second Edition. Have fun learning how to fly TIE strikers, TIE/sf, and TIE aggressors with only 2 agility. I know I'm going to be enjoying the challenge! It is entirely possible that this upgrade will come in their individual packs, but if they plan on releasing it, it kind of makes TIE strikers tough to use in the interim, which would make me sad.

Also, I would like to reiterate that the TIE reaper wouldn't be worthless in Second Edition with a primary weapon value of 2. Indeed, 2 attack dice are quite potent in Second Edition. Alas, that's not how the designers chose to treat the TIE reaper, so it's irrelevant.
