Epic Epic - 500pts per player, 2v2 (scum edition)

ok, so on the 21st myself and 3 other lunatics will be playing a 1000pts per side 2v2 epic game.

as we are playing absurd points we are pretty out of the scope of the normal epic rules here so craziness is really only limited by what we have in our collections, which brings me to this thread.

one side is flying Imperial, the other has one Rebel and one Scum player. I'm flying Scum and I have access to no less than 5 C-ROC cruisers, do I go big and get all 5 of them on the table? I know there will be at least a Raider and Gozanti on the imperial side, and my teammate is looking to bring a CR-90, but do I go for a cruiser squadron? I've managed to put together a 500pt list that has 5x C-ROC, 6x z-95, and 4x Vaksai - the question is, is there such a thing as too many Epic's on the table?

For general Epicness, no, but you may struggle against better balanced forces.

5 C-ROCs will look absolutely awesome on the table, and if its just all about the fun, go for it.

For a little more balanced attack though, I would probably cut down to 3 and use those points for 4-6 more fighters. Kit 2 out for attacking and one for support to guide in a group of alpha striking fighters.

Area of effect weapons like Ion Torpedoes would be great in a game with that many targets on the board and are especially powerful for taking out capital ships who live and die by energy. A couple Y's or Starvipers with Ion torps and a couple Heavy Scyks with a mix of cannons might be a good way to round out the squad. With that many points there are so many options.

that's basically my though process right there - especially as three of the C-ROCs will be "repurposed" Gozanti's - I'm mainly there for the fun, to the point I'm actually considering gearing one or two of the Cruisers up as missile boats, and another one or two as Raider-hunters with Turbolasers :)

I hear ya. Actually, if I had the models or enough pals, I would love to run some sort of battle with nothing but like 4-6 Huge ships per side. (I know, play Armada, blah, blah, blah, its not the same.)

And just to make it interesting for that battle, I would probably do a house rule where the max energy of each ship is 2 higher and every maneuver gives +1 more energy so that those bad boys could actually get some things done.

500pt epic is a huge amount of fun, 300pts doesn't feel epic enough to me.

Area of effect and bombers are hugely effective in Epic, a squad of 4-6 missile carriers can wipe an epic ship out in a single engagement (or at least 1 half)

yup, the more points, the more epic :)

I'm currently thinking of backing my C-ROC mini-swarm with 2x m12 missile boats, a Scurrg bomber, and 2x IG88 (with 88D crew on the Turbolaser C-ROC)

I'm going to need a second raider....

Erm, no, no you don't need any raiders at all. in fact you should just bring un-upgraded TIE bombers with the shuttle title :)

Im assuming the heavy Skyc titles with no actual cannons are for the extra hull. That's not a bad idea. Here are a few alternatives you could consider, though again, the 2 pt "hull upgrade" is not bad.

1. Remove one Black Sun Soldier and put a mix of tractors and Ions on the Scyks. Tractor can pull ships closer to the short ranged C-ROCs or put things on rocks or into the path of an epic to get run over. And Ions wreck those energy starved Raiders.

2. Change the Heavys to light Scyks for a 4 pt per ship savings and add a 6th one to the squad. Should have a couple points left so maybe do some crack shots or something.

3. A combo of 1 and 2. Change a couple heavys to light and put cannons on the rest.

Yeh the titles on the syck are for the cheap hull

Might do that and add linked battery to all the Syck's

I don't have any more Syck models :(

this thread has definitely been a great help (my last post was at midnight my time, so yeh, um, moving on) and I'm now going to see what I need to do to get either linked battery or Arc-casters on those Syck's

I'm reliant on Regnak (one of the opposition) for pictures, but I'm sure we will sort something out :)

is it worth swapping some/all of the construction droids out for Operations Specialists to create some obnoxious token spamming?

also, is it worth dropping the two turbo lasers to heavy laser turrets for a bit more flexibility?

1) any good idea is worth stealing;

2) but for the record I simply repurposed the idea, and multiplied it by 5;

3) its thematic for the scum to repurpose things from the imperials;

4) it would mean you don't have to worry about 2x supercharged turbolasers;
