Looking for Organized Play in Eastern Massachusetts

By GallagherT, in Organized Play

Any game stores in Eastern Massachusetts (I am in the Lexington/Bedford/Hanscom area) that are running Legion events/tournaments? I've driven around to a few stores as I check out the area and I haven't found anything noteworthy yet.

Despite my well known opposition to the whole meta mindset I'm considering putting in paperwork to run organized play at local Boys & Girls Club after hours, using their gym and many folding tables. My theory is even though I don't like that play style, I will still get to see lots of cool painted armies. It would be in Stoneham or Wakefield.

Battleground games on Route 1 Saugus Mass has been running Legion events; We just finished up Operation Silent Hail Rivals league, and will be doing another shortly. I believe (might need to check first because I'm not positive) they do Legion nights on Tuesdays/Saturdays cause thats when the X-Wing/Armada guys are in.

I didn't know there was anyone around doing stuff. Guess I'll have to check that out. It's not on their calendar (except that X-Wing is Tuesdays) maybe I'll make it in a few weeks. I religiously game on Mondays elsewhere though so going more than monthly would probably be a non-starter for me.

I love BG Saugus. They've got everything you need for game; from mats to terrain. They run a BUNCH of Warhammer stuff out of the store so it carries all the good stuff. I'll update here when they run their next Tourney/league ^.^

Sounds great. Maybe I'll have an army painted by then. All I have now is a core set and a squad of snowtroopers, but they're all painted at least, and I have made arrangements to secure half the miniatures from another core set.

Please post if you decide to get this up and running. I bet a lot of us would like to come out and play.

Awesome. Please let us know when BG Saugus runs another tournament. One of my biggest complaints in finding a local place to play is that some store's don't update their calendars, some use separate FB groups for their events and some just rely on regional FB groups focused on a particular game.

I game every Monday about 7pm in a place with unlimited tablespace by invite only. People can PM me if you want to come and play Legion. I have painted my core set and 1 add-on but I'll do more shortly. I'm away this Monday but otherwise I'm pretty religious about game night. If we get a couple players I'll run an unnofficial campaign of some kind. It seems to me from what little time I've been able to research it, that you need a FFG wholesale account to do "organized" play but I will see if there is a way around it. Already having 3+ Legion players meeting weekly would help the case immensely. I could probably always get "sponsorship" from a local store even if we don't play there, as I personally buy all my Legion stuff there and would push others in their direction.

There are X-Wing and Imperial Assault players among us so it wouldn't be too crazy to think some of them would try out Legion if they saw it being played over and over. None of these guys are particularly loyal to one game. I have enough scenery to cover probably 4 tables, though I am considering slimming down my collection. Everyone else owns varying collections of scenery for historical games, Warmachine, etc. etc. etc. The thing is to communicate ahead of time so I know how much stuff to bring.

The second I have 800 points painted for one faction, I'll let you know... Finding info on "getting organized" is hard. I think you have to have a wholesale account.

BG in Saugus did a weekly leave for Op Silent Hail. Their Facebook event calendar said it was Mondays at 7, but that’s because Facebook needs a date / time. You could come in any day and play your match, which made it really easy. Plenty of tables, a decent amount of Star Wars themed terrain to use (and plenty of other stuff if you don’t mind your Stormies dying on 40K terrain), etc.

I believe they’re going to put out feelers for more weekly events vs. single day tourneys.

I’ve played a few Star Wars FFG events at a couple of their locations... IA, Destiny, Legion, etc., and they do a nice job.

Also pretty sure Pandemonium in Cambridge is going to do some events too.

I have been up there twice, I'd go back if they had Legion players.

I will go up tonight if anyone's around. Probably get there about 6:30. I will bring my Legion armies and something to paint if the gaming's thin on the ground. Maybe more like 7...
