Knifes and the Emperor's Fury?

By Khalual, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

So I have a question about said topic, do knifes not get the benefit of Emp's Fury because the roll a d5 or is a 5 considered a 10 for this? Also the Bolo Knife does 2D5, if a 5 is good enough for Emp's Fury does this knife double the chance of checking for it?

You must roll a natural 10 before halving damage and rounding up to score a Righteous Fury on a 1d5. Further, yes, multiple damage dice mean multiple chances of scoring a Righteous Fury. Your odds of doing so with a 2d5 weapon are 19% (1 - .9 * .9); nearly double.

That was a good question (and answer)! I had not thought of that.

Okay, this info really came in handy because my GM was going to buy a real 5 sider die (they actually make them):

So, now we have a good reason to not.

I hadn't heard of those! However, cool or not, I think you're making the right decision not to pick one up. It's just more die to have around for the same use. Same thing with d100s. You could use them in DH but they're considerably less versatile than those good 'ol d10s.

They're also frigging golf balls! lengua.gif

How are those actually shaped? Are they prisms? I wonder how they manage an even distribution of results...

Only way I could imagine a D5 would be a somewhat spindle-shaped "die"... think a right pentagonal prism with pyramids set atop the upper and lower face so the die can't land on them.

Who is it that needs all these randomisations?

D34's, D14's.

D&D has a lot to answer for.

No sir, that is not the perview of D&D. A good old fashioned set of dice is all one needs for any of the numerous editions and versions out there; though with the damned spell and magic item cyclopedias of 2nd ed, figuring out how to roll and read 1d1000 was fun times for all.

I don't know where you needs d34's etc but D&D started the fire of unescesarly shaped dice.

Okay, I'll give you that one... I've actually used a d100 to golf with. Found one that was actually regulation and everything. gran_risa.gif And the current d10's are abnormally shaped. Originally the d10 was just a d20 numbered 0-9 twice; typically with a - and + on the sides as well to indicate 1-10 and 11-20 respectively. Weirdness ensues.
