Just bought Guns for Hire and Most Wanted

By Nohwear, in X-Wing

I joust bought the Guns for Hire and Most Wanted expansions. I also have the original Core. Since I want to keep my purchases to a min before 2.0, what else would be considered vital for Scum? Right now I am more concerned with learning to fly.

You've got a bunch of things to play around with. In principle, you can pick up anything in the conversion kit as long as you dont break its limits.

Personally, I'd pick up a Slave1 and a fang fighter and call it a day.

Maybe a rebel y wing expansion to get the most out of your most wanted? But otherwise just play.

(And yeah slave 1 or a rant are both fun slave 1 is a bit overcosted)

Buy the ships you like. You’ll have more fun flying ships that you know and like than some random ship that you’ve never heard of before just because the interwebs told you it was good.

Right now nothing is “vital,” because in a couple months everything is going to change with 2.0.

Get what you like. The scum ships, overall, are the coolest looking ships in the game.

The hope for 2.0 is that things will be generally balanced overall, so there should be no bad purchases.

While these are great choices, bear in mind that the Fang is getting a re-sculpt with moving wings and the Firespray is getting an upgraded paint job.

As a guy who bought everything Scum.. plus extras of several...

Sounds like you have a good base to build on.. start with what you like.

Just about every ship is a lot of fun, despite what is popular in any current meta.

Fly something that's fun and scummy, and rejoice when the "****" ship/character pulls of their scum trait. Regardless when they immediately get decimated the next round. (It's the little things in life, afterall)

I love trying to make Dace Bonearm, Talonbane Cobra, and Tweek work, regardless of the meta, or other people's opinions :)

(that being said, you have the two "big packs", why not go for the C-ROC? :) )

Seconded,

I have a C-ROC and use it in 100 point games. Just slap on the Heavy Laser turret and it's a fun ship to fly and on ly 40 points!

Plus you'll get a Scyk.

And you can always use it as an obstacle instead of three rocks/debris clouds.

And most importantly, you’ll get the best/most fun pilot in the game:

SUNNY BOUNDER!

Don't do this. Buy the spinny fang when it comes out in Wave 1.

I'll make a pitch for the ShadowCaster. It's my favorite scum ship, and it'll even give you some good 2.0 training with the mobile arc. And Ketsu is just plain fun. Pair it with a StarViper and another point-filler (Y-Wing or your Z-95's).

Granted, the spinny fang is an option to refrain from buying a fang fighter now. So, I'd pitch my vote in for the Slave1 and if your fingers are truly itchy, a Hound's tooth or Jumpmaster. After all, you play scum cause you like Bounty hunters, right? A HWK is also a good idea: will likely not change much model-wise, and (is/will be) a joy to build and fly.

Bear in mind that the secondary market is really hot right now, as several people are quitting and selling off their collections.

Keep an eye on ebay, FB etc, many say they will pull out of Scum. Probably a lot of people also now trying to sell their Autotruster,eh, Starviper expansion pack, which they solely bought for 1.0 card autothrusters. Easy to get ships cheap right now.

Hwks are cool, but I would not prioriotise flying them right now, they get a lot better in 2.0 (more firepower, better dial (not difficult, they have together with the Lambda the crappiest dials in the game)).

Scyks are fun, esp. Sunny. However, as with the Hwk, dial is changing, I would wait with flying these until sept, as their movement pattern will change.

So my recommendation: M12L Kimogila . It's good for already now learning how to get/keep things in your bull's eye firing arc (going to be pretty important in 2.0 for many ships and EPTs), without having access to tons of repositions (or passive mods). You said, you want to learn fly, right? :)

And if looks play a role, actually the M12L is a really beautiful model hidden under a crappy paintjob, look at the Kimogila showcase in the Painting subforum, what one can do with this ship!

spelling...

This conversion kit provides 2 dials for the StarViper so you can get the singleton grey one and still be set.

Bendy barrel roll for the win!

I think you definitely need a Hawk. They're really trolly in first edition and are getting a big fix inn second ed.

Also consider the Scurrg too.

I'd recommend a quadjumper, mainly because of how amazingly fun they are with a cloaking device. It's not all about competitive action, and when you're playing with friends it can create some memorable moments.

Id consider:

Hawk

scurgg

starviper

quadjumper

Kimoghila

HWK, all the way; it's a fun ship that will only get better in 2.0.
