New Player coming from X-Wing

By icephreaq, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Recently got into Armada and I'm playing in a Store Championship on Sunday. This will be maybe my 5th time playing. I'm using another players pool to build my lists from. I'd like some feedback on the list I've put together today. With this list I'm trying to push damage through with crit effects primarily using squadrons. Let me know what you folks think!

Store Championship (393/400)
===========================
MC80 Command Cruiser (106 + 56)
+ General Dodonna (20)
+ Engineering Captain (6)
+ Advanced Projectors (6)
+ Overload Pulse (8)
+ Spinal Armament (9)
+ Home One (7)
Nebulon-B Escort Frigate (57 + 15)
+ Flight Commander (3)
+ Turbolaser Reroute Circuits (7)
+ Yavaris (5)
Nebulon-B Support Refit (51 + 21)
+ Intel Officer (7)
+ Turbolaser Reroute Circuits (7)
+ Salvation (7)
Nym (21)
Wedge Antilles (19)
Norra Wexley (17)
Dutch Vander (16)
Rogue Squadron (14)
Opening Salvo
Fighter Ambush
Dangerous Territory

Welcome! Your list has some... Problems. The first one I see is Dodonna. You don't seem to have any squadrons that work with him! Both Nym and Norra are both trying to pull their own crits. Maybe you didn't know, but you can only resolve 1 crit effect. The rest of your squads are not that great either, so I would suggest a change there. Your MC80 is not that great either, not gaining that much benefit from spinal, Engineering officer or Advanced projectors. ALL big ships should Have Electronic Countermeasures or Early Warning System. I would also recommend that you remove Overload Pulse becuase you will not be able to use it on the attack with the MC80. Again, this is a crit effect, something that will not work with dodonna. If you like squadrons, and like a big ship that can dish out damage, I would try a liberty with a biggs ball.

Biggs Darklighter (19)
•2 x X-wing Squadron (13)
• Gold Squadron (12)
• Jan Ors (19)
• Green Squadron (12)
• 2 x B-wing Squadron (28)
= 103 Points

this is a decent Biggs ball, and you can efficiently mitigate damage while green, gold and the 2 Bwings dish out damage to ships. You can combine this with Yavaris for a double tap of 2 or 3 of those squadrons! To help you even further, I would include Toryn Farr. This will give you a very good chance at getting 2 damage per squadron attack, just make sure to keep her in range of your squadrons.

Here is how I did it:

GR-75 Medium Transports (18)
• Ahsoka Tano (2)
= 20 Points

GR-75 Medium Transports (18)
• Toryn Farr (7)
= 25 Points

Nebulon-B Escort Frigate (57)

• Lando Carissian (4)
• Yavaris (5)
= 66 Points

These ships will be your 3 ways of activating squadrons, they have a combined 6 squadron value, which is enough to activate all but 2 squadron. That is ok becuase it will be Jan Ors, who will not really need to move and will end up attacking a squadron or something. The Only problem is the Nebulon B...

In my experience, Yavaris can die quickly, people HATE him, so I would try to run him at speed 2 or even 1 so that he stays further back. On top of that, I have him with Lando Carissian so that we can get rid of pesky double hits. The Yavaris title will allow you to take any of the double dice(vs ships) squadrons that have bomber and NUKE ships. It is really fun to do, and when you see your opponents interdictor who just healed 4 shields get demolished by 10 blue/black dice from squadrons... yea. It's fun.

The last part of our list is a big ship. I have decided to go with a liberty because It doesn't see much play and you seem to have access to one(I see your spinals). This is the best part of the list:

MC80 Battle Cruiser (103)
• Garm Bel Iblis (25)
• Intel Officer (7)
• Caitken and Shollan (6)
• Nav Team (4)
• Ion Cannon Batteries (5)
• Spinal Armament (9)
• XI7 Turbolasers (6)
• Mon Karren (8)
= 173 Points

OH YEA. We are pulling out Garm AND the Liberty. This hunk of junk is the best there is, So let me tell you why. It has a combo with Intel officer, Mon Karren and X-I7s. With Intel officer you choose their best defence token and with Mon Karren they can only use 1 defence token. With X-I7s, they must take all the damage( minus 1 ) to the hull zone you attacked. So at best (for them) losing their brace and taking a big hit to the front(5 or so damage). OR, they are redirecting 1 damage and taking an avg of 9 to the front, A serious punch. You also kick off their best command token or have them take an extra shield of damage. You can up this to Heavy Ion Emplacements and remove lando just to get that extra damage in for sure. Finally, since this attack will be so anti- defence tokens, reroll as many accuracies as possible.

Garm will give you all the tokens you need so I would do something like this :

TURN 1

Transports -give nav tokens and command a nav so they can move around.

MC80 - 1 con fire, 1 nav and 1 engineering. Command Nav

Yavaris- Confire and Nav and Nav Command

Turn 5 is basically keep your ships alive and use those squadrons!

Assault: Most Wanted
Defense: Jamming Barrier ( if you do not have Corrillian Conflict, Use Contested Outpost)
Navigation: Solar Corona ( can proxy if you do not have Corrillian Conflict)

You are sitting at 400 points. This amount will get you second player 9/10 times, so your objectives are very important. Most of the time you will play solar Corona and simply choose the side of the map that is at your back, so that all the accuracies will be removed as much as possible. You do need the objectives from the Corrillian Conflict, so I would get that.

Enjoy Sorry if you wanted more help on your list, but I think it requires hammerheads and more black dice. I figured that this list was pretty close to yours and can be played pretty well by new players. If you want something with a MC80 Command Cruiser, I would look at ackbar.

I disagree with a couple points in the above. I think Dodonna works fine with the MC80C. If you’re planning on going second, you should probably have some good ways to use objectives advantageously. Here’s something a bit more similar to your original idea that I’ve been working on:

Faction: Rebel Alliance
Points: 398/400

Commander: General Dodonna

Assault Objective: Precision Strike
Defense Objective: Fire Lanes
Navigation Objective: Salvage Run

GR-75 Medium Transports (18 points)
- Hondo Ohnaka ( 2 points)
- Comms Net ( 2 points)
= 22 total ship cost

Nebulon-B Escort Frigate (57 points)
- Yavaris ( 5 points)
= 62 total ship cost

GR-75 Medium Transports (18 points)
- Bright Hope ( 2 points)
- Toryn Farr ( 7 points)
= 27 total ship cost

[ flagship ] MC80 Command Cruiser (106 points)
- General Dodonna ( 20 points)
- Adar Tallon ( 10 points)
- Medical Team ( 1 points)
- Electronic Countermeasures ( 7 points)
- Quad Battery Turrets ( 5 points)
- SW-7 Ion Batteries ( 5 points)
= 154 total ship cost

1 Shara Bey ( 17 points)
2 VCX-100 Freighters ( 30 points)
1 Wedge Antilles ( 19 points)
1 "Dutch" Vander ( 16 points)
1 Gold Squadron ( 12 points)
1 Luke Skywalker ( 20 points)
1 Jan Ors ( 19 points)
= 133 total squadron cost

You’ve got your MC80C, your Dutch Wedge combo, plus Luke because he’s great with Dodonna. I’ve also added Intel so you can hit ships. This lists could really use a Bomber Command Center, but I went with Adar instead for greater anti-squadron potential.

Thanks! I really appreciate the feedback. I'm still very early in my Armada career and coming in at this point there are so many options it can be a bit overwhelming. I'm having a friend over today to play a game or two before the tourney on Sunday. I'll give your list suggestion a spin!

Well, Dodonna is trying to pull crits more often than just the standard crit... APTs work great with him, and for 5 more points, garm is a better commander, just my own opinion tho.
