Do Reapers deserve the hate that Rebel Fenn Rau gets? Point-Counterpoint.

By Biophysical, in X-Wing

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Real answer: As stated earlier, Fen Rau for the most part does more for less. Especially as a squadron support piece.

that was my Miri. into hull turn 1, dead turn 2. that was perhaps the most one sided match i have had in 6 months of flying 100pt miri.

my Harpoons, Rey and Selflessness were essentially unusable. there were turns where stressing the reapers would only make things worse because then they could move slower.

I almost feel bad for you.

But then again...

Reapers might just drive me over to ghost fenn because reapers and Fenn in one meta rewards abusing passive mods even further.

Or give up your treasonous ways, come back to your caring Emperor and unleash the glory of Expertise Quickdraw upon your foes. ?

the empire turned its back on us all 9 months ago. i just rejected the false prophet kylo.

but if 1.0 was continuing i would be grinding defender reapers as we speak. because having jam reward you for being in arc of things is actually a really cool mechanic i would like to see more of.

Or triple auzitucks.

"Jam what?"

As a long-time striker player, I've seen people do that a lot. I don't know why people have a blind spot for it.

"Ahaha! Take a stress token!"

"....You realise that lets me do a speed 1 straight that I normally can't do and actually stay behind you, right?"

The problem there is that unless you don't reinforce for a turn, you never shake the jam token - meaning Vermeil or Feroph have a field day.

I need to try this matchup. On the one hand, yeah there's nothing to jam and reinforce is always a pain. But on the other hand, the Reapers now get to focus or evade freely, and Vermeil is online at all times. Not sure who is getting the better deal there.

Probably the auzitucks. Not so much for the Jam/Reinforce interaction but because triple auzitucks usually pack tacticians, and aileron-equipped craft really, really hate stress-inflicting lists.

Wanna talk screwing up multi-Reaper squads?

Low/Rey

Standard Rey, plus Low with Ezra Maul and DTF/Selflessness, and probably multispectral camo, i think it has spare points.

Number of mods that require focus/evade/lock: 0. Literally 0.

Reapers are as bad, but nobody cares overly much about the 1.0 meta. I think that’s the primary reason for the lack of concern.

This pretty much, and the forum is full of overly vocal imperial bootlickers that have never cared about true balance as long as Imps were fine in the meta.

But when Rebels were too good now, whine explosion.

That being said i think its cool that they make some truly insane lists now at the end of 1.0, so people can have fun while not taking it too serious anymore.

Flew two games against someone who doesn't often fly Strikers yesterday, and they had a Reaper. It never jammed once, frequently bumping or landing on rocks.

I'll say this for Reapers being more balanced than Fenn: Sheathipedes are a lot easier to fly. I wouldn't exactly call them brainless ships, and cunning maneuvers can be pulled with them, but it's clearly going to be the case that Reapers are almost surely more prone to catastrophic mistakes. With practice, they can dart in and out of tricky spots, but almost anyone can fly Fenn to 90% of maximum effectiveness.
