is there any reason you cannot cast hydra spell to duplicate temporal warp, i want to cast it, but someone is saying that it must be cast on a character. isnt that who it was cast on. temporal warp just says to cast at the beginning of your turn. doesnt say what to target, so i assume its your own character. is it being cast on a player and not a character?

To me TW isn't cast on a character. You do cast it at the start of your turn, but there is not targetting. Hydra Spell works for anything that states "cast on a character" (Random, Weakness, Shatter, etc.). Taking the tough stance, that is allowing Hydra Spell to only work with Spells that have that specific phrase in them would be my way to go.
i dont know, i looked through the spells and the only time they specifically use that phrase is when its a spell that you can cast at other characters beside yourself.otherwise, it just tells when to cast it
I think that's meant to be the point of the Hydra Spell, that you can add new targets to something like Random (can cause it to affect all other characters, including the caster himself) or return the favor if you're zapped with Finger of Death. By quick math I counted 28 Spells that would be eligible for Hydra Spell even with the strict interpretation.
actually, there are many spells like this, brainwave, craft, energize. they all say cast on yourself, because you cant cast that spell on someone elses character. when you cast craft, who gets the blue cone? you , or your character. if what your saying was true, hydra spell, a spell that at first seems very nice, quickly becomes one of the the crappiest spell in the game. simply put, i think if the spell alters anything about a characters stats, its a legal target.
id like to get a definitive answer. it seems that this spell is there to give a player a chance to duplicate some of the many character buffs that opponents may use against you. the cards never ever refer to any players, only characters. many spells begin with..." cast on any character on his turn..." they refer to the character at all times. the only time ( i looked, and its 100% of the time ) that the word " character is not used is when its a spell that can only be cast on your own character, or if its a spell you obviosly cant use such as oblivion or black ice.
It still leaves Hydra Spell useful, though situational. Barrier, Hex, etc. still hold the crapfest trophy easily. Imagine a 5-player game, where everyone has gained at least 1 point of Str. Player A casts Syphon Str on Player C, player B plays HS and includes players A, D and E as additional targets. Now, instead of Player A getting +1 and Player C -1 Str, it's player A +/-0, Player B +3, Players C-E -1 Str. If Player B were the original target, it would be Player B +3, all others -1. Random and Shatter Spells are two others I wouldn't mind having the Hydra Spell for.
It could be that HS works for Spells that are "cast on yourself", but even then would only really add Craft and Strength Spells to the mix, at least for me (maybe Blessed). Stuff like Water Walking, Teleport, Transference + Hydra Spell = ? Take for example Teleport + Hydra Spell. If you're in the Dungeon, another char uses Teleport, you use HS to move to the Treasure Chamber. Rules state that ending your move there, you must fight the LoD, you never end there, you're always booted out, whether win, lose and stand-off. Do you fight the LoD during another char's turn? If you don't you get the really weird situation where a char actually starts their turn in the Treasure Chamber, something I feel was never intended to happen.

i didnt realize until just now that HS could affect multiple targets. its possibe that that could have an effect i didnt see yet. have to keep looking at this.
i still think all the combat spells should be ok, as well as healing
