The mouths on the
Uthuk
Obscene models are really good. Puts the Ravos model to shame...which is a shame, really.
Uthuk brought to par

The Obscenes are acting peculiar. I need to add 6 of them to get the full unit instead of 3 as I would expect. They will be 2 to a box like the other siege units.
Don't have time to read it all now, but just wanted to say how excited I am that they put Th'Uk Tar's silhouette in the RPG. I was looking at it the other day, wondering if it would be their special unit. Today the question was answered.

Should be fixed now. Thanks for the heads up.

Looks good now, thanks.

I think I've given up on her. It sounds like she might be the mastermind behind the new invasion, so having her on the battlefield would be like having Waiqar or Lord Aenoth. Then again, that would make a wicked cool hero wave! Daqan could get Baron Fdederick.
Switching topics, I'm so looking forward to putting a Bannerscamp near Th'Uk tar with his Fearmonger's Whip.
Prediction: they dumped these 5 (!!!) announcements all in two days (could have spread them out over 5, 10 weeks to keep hype rolling) because miniatures are up next for the developed insights, and they want to start Runewars with "now that we've established the core units and heroes of the 4 armies, here's where we see the game going"
I can't wait to see some dials! There was some talk about Lord Vorun'thul in another thread and the question was asked, "What do you do when he disengages and ends up behind you?" My first thought was, "Take a wound from Beastmaster Th'Uk Tar and reform!" but we need to know how fast he can execute that skill to know if that is viable.
Also, I like where Th'Uk Tar is going with the wounds to friendlies. To me, that should be a major part of the Uthuk Y'llan play style. Sure, we see it with Ravos and Berserkers, but it just hasn't seemed significant enough. Doing self damage for some effect in games is always terribly difficult to balance. You either make it so worth the damage that you always take the effect, or you make it so bad that nobody takes it. But I digress. I think Beastmaster Th'Uk Tar is my favorite Uthuk hero so far, both aesthetically and with his abilities. The only one who beats him is Kethra with her setup ability (which is awesome!!!). The ability to shift or reform your units out of initiative order sounds super fun to play with.
Viper Legion - I'm really excited for the Viper Legion, but I'm not sure why. I think the Viper Trapmaster card is very interesting. I wonder how tough competition will be for that champion slot. I'm thinking that with the ranged attacker finally here, we have a place to put our support witches like Blood Diviner and Bloodfire Witch. I think Psychosis Siren still belongs in the thick of things, like with a Berserkers unit. We also have a candidate for Rallying Shrieker, though dialing in a skill means sacrificing a surge (I'm assuming the skill will be white like other infantry command tools). I confess that I'm disappointed with how abstracted the poison is for these guys, but it's probably for the best.
Obscenes - Not sure what to think yet. I think their Unique upgrades will be pretty strong. I think the ability to move enemy units around is neat. It could definitely be useful. I'm curious to see if these guys have a white skill modifier. Could they be forcing engaged enemies to disengage before an attack, thus taking the panic token instead of the Obscenes taking a panic for being the ones to disengage? Could be fun and definitely adds another mind game to Runewars.

I definitely agree. Still, there are several weeks before the GenCon In-flight Report, so I'm not sure why these needed to be rushed this week, unless we're going to have a dearth of Runewars news in the next few weeks leading up to GenCon. I expect new factions to be announced at GenCon. For sure.

Yeah, I was really hoping for a new bane with these guys. Something like this:
Poisoned: After a unit with at least one "Poisoned" bane completes it's activation, remove one of these banes and deal 1 wound to the unit.
This would be interesting in that it can be countered with inspiration or rallying, but at the cost of other actions. Sometimes you will just have to take the wound to do what you want. Also Reanimates probably just wouldn't care, which feels correct.
It's a neat unit, just was hoping for more direct flavor in the mechanic.
Do you think Th'Uk Tar will have a unique upgrade analogous to Sweeping Strikes?
I've got a question... why do these grotesques look so much better than Ravos?

You mean Obscenes? I have no idea. Ravos had such awesome concept art but they really botched it in the model. His goofy grin in the model is actually quite reminiscent of the Obscenes in Runewars: Banners of War and BattleLore: Second Edition. It's like they were trying to make him really look like an Obscene, not knowing obscenes would be their own unit later on.
Do you know what is awesome about the Viper Legion Archers? Someday, when there is an upgrade that requires 4 surges to activate, they may be able to do it for 1!
Realistically, I think that is the very reason we may never see an Uthuk only or neutral upgrade that requires more than 2 surges. If you cost it too high, it effectively becomes Viper Legion Archers only. If you cost it too low, they run rapant with it. Still, I found the wording peculiar. Most surge abilities cost only 1 or 2 surges, so why word it such that you can reduce the cost by more than 1, but only to a minimum of 1?

I don't know about that. It's dichotomous: does the defender have a bane or not? If they do, reduce the cost of your surge abilities by one. So if the enemy has a bane, you only ever decrease the cost by one.
I think they will love Spined Threshers, who almost always activate at or before 5, so they'll leave a nice panic there for the Viper Legion to get some Lethal.

Oops, you're right. I misread it.
