In the Future

By CubsFanSean, in Army Building

New to miniature ground battle games and have a question regarding "future" army building. I assume patience matters here as I don't wanna buy 2 and 3 of every ground troop that comes out. If we look forward a year, you'll see diversity in lists e.g. 1 of 5 or 6 different types of troops with a commander/vehicle(s). Essentially, does it behoove me to sacrifice a little variety now to not buy 3 sets of snowtroopers on top of the 4 stormtrooopera with scout troopers etc. coming

Sincerely,

El Cheapo!!

You are correct. You probably want space for future things. We can already see more support, leaders, and commandos. But the releases that have been announced take us through the end of the year. It's a balance. If you want a full 800 point army in three years, you'll be short for 2.75 years. I think it's best to avoid spamming just to fill points now. But eventually you'll have units you don't use every game (or most games). Just happens.

And , assuming Legion remains popular with incoming new players, sell your excess on eBay for 75% of what you paid for it and put that towards new units.

This.

There is no cheap way for playing tabletop wargames. The cheapest way to start with Legion is buying 3 core sets, Leia and Veers. You can actually build the best lists around that. And then you only buy something, if you absolutely need it to make your list significantly better. If you want variety in your games and lists, you need to buy more than that.

Of course then you won’t have Jammers for the support vehicles or Impact Grenades and Climbing gear for the Infantry, as those are only found in the expansions.

Beyond strict budgetary considerations, the reasons to get more than the minimum number of squads is for build flexibility and the new cards that come with those units.
