Large Battle Speculation

Again, you have very valid points, what we did in a lot of our Apocalypse games was = if a super heavy moved over a piece of terrain, like a building, it was destroyed and removed from the table. if we had sufficient rubble area terrain laying around we would put that in its place and now it was difficult and dangerous terrain for all other units. but different game mechanics and all, I get that.

Now, as to the rebels not getting a huge hulk of a tank or something else equivalent to the AT-AT, the rebels do not have access to the same level of equipment the empire does. that's why there is this feeling that the empire is unstoppable and such a daunting war machine.

as slow as the AT-AT would be in this game, lumber some at best. I would see its top speed moving it 1 at the most a turn, with a special pivot tool. this would essential make it a walking bunker that might move 12 inches the entire game.

now the point that I keep forgetting to make, the rebels "super unit" IMO would be something more like clone wars era vehicles, or heavy repulsor vehicles that are quick but lightly armored. lower points cost but would perform a whole lot different.

also, side note, I feel that because of the nature of the rebels, they should be allowed to take AT-ST's and other imperial vehicles, because, well, they are rebel scum of course.

@KILODEN In 40K cover saves aren't as necessary (and there are TONS of ways to bypass them anyway), whereas in Legion units will often disappear after a single round in the open between the small size of units and the (relative to 40k) low "armour" save values. The saves for heroes with lightsabers (when they get Deflect) is thus far the equivalent of a 3+ save, which is the best save possible in Legion without using different dice. Vehicles in Legion either have a 5+ or 6+ save relying more on Armor to reduce damage, all Rebel infantry (so far) have a 5+, and Stormtroopers (of whatever flavour) have a 4+. Unlike 40k, there are no invulnerable save hijinks, no massive swarms of units able to soak up losses from concentrated fire. In Legion, cover saves and dodge tokens to cancel hits before having to check for wounds are the best way to keep a unit around, and even then your opponent always has at least a 1/8 chance of getting a crit (1/4 for the AT-RT), bypassing Dodge and Cover.

Allowing for anything to remove terrain in Legion gives a massive advantage to the player that gets to pick and choose what terrain is left on the board.

Clone wars era vehicles are just a different flavour of walker, at least from the Grand Army of the Republic. A large base Repulsor vehicle would be awful as it would have compulsory movement, and all the limitations therein, and wouldn't even provide cover to units behind it.

Of note, "Huge" bases are already in the game, and used by the AT-ST and T-47. The Tantive V and other ships for Epic X-wing play are labelled as "Huge." That plus the inclusion of special rules for playing with twice as many points as a standard game strongly indicates to me anyway FFG is not planning on releasing any larger models. But we'll see.

@Caimheul1313

man, why must you crush my dreams :(

I only want to have fun:(

I think AT-AT's would be fun:)

@KILODEN So buy one of the Revell kits and make up your own house rules for it. I just wouldn't expect anything official.

Problem with an AT-AT moving even at speed 1 is the front to back of the movement in game. So if your size is roughly 3 measuring sticks long, that 1 movement would still put you 3 movement sticks forward as the end of the 1 movement is the back of the model now and front is way up there.

If you're writing rules for something this out of scale, you can clearly create another movement mechanic for it. I hardly think the issue is movement rules. The issue is that it would kill everything on the opposing side every turn, and then stomp it to death for good measure.

I mean sure, it would be hard to move the Death Star on the map, but I don't feel that that's what's keeping it out of scope for this game.
