fatespinner

By darthmax1, in Talisman Home Brews

strength - 2

craft - 4

life - 4

fate - 5

alignment - nuetral

begins at tavern

must always remain nuetral. ignore effects that change alignment.

fate may be spent to purchase life up to your total, a spell, or + 2 to next die roll ( + 2 for each fate spent )

when in battle or psychic combat with another character, they may not use fate to reroll against you

you may attack other characters in psychic combat

may also use a fate to re-draw an adventure card, which they must use

and finally....whenever and wherever, for whatever, any time you roll a six, gain a fate up to you limit

final tweaks.... str = 3, crft = 3. no more ability to initiate psychic combat

See Venturer, This, another synonym, might have more flavor and spawn more ideas than naming a character after an attribute of all characters.

The Fatespinner should have a way of replenishing his fate when you consider the type of character he is and also on account of his name. I just wonder if this special ability is too generous.

For example, the fatespinner rolls for a 6 for movement, encounters a monster and rolls a 6 for combat, loses the combat and rolls a 6 on his armor save. In this example the fatespinner has gained 3 fate. Of course, the odds of rolling that many 6's are low but I've seen stranger dice rolls.

So I think the ability should be modified to make fate a little more difficult to gain or tone down some of his other uses for fate. As it stands now, I think he's a little overpowered since he's able to replenish fate without too much difficulty and he has some pretty powerful uses for it compared to other player's standard use. I'm just not sure what mechanic to use for the Fatespinner to gain fate or whether to reduce some of his uses for it.

Onto a different subject. Just curious but why the restriction to absolute Neutral alignment?

I think this character has potential and I like the name. I'd be interested in seeing a graphic to go with the character.

If he/she starts at the Tavern, then perhaps instead of rolling on the table, he/she can choose to replenish Fate there.

Seems an odd place to start, though it is as good as any to be honest.

i went with nuetral to keep him from becoming evil and aquiring fate for free at the graveyard, plus, i think fate goes w/ nuerality. accept all fate, the good with the bad, and deal with it as best you can. that is the philosophy behind my idea of the fatespinner.

i tend to agree with you about any 6 rolled being too much. i thought about making him able to steal fate, but that was too powerful also. maybe he should only gain fate when he rolls a 6 for movement.

i hate to limit his fate abilities since thats all he really has going for him
