Flying the Reaper

By Ronu, in X-Wing Battle Reports

So I flew my new Reaper at a Store Championship today. All I will say here is the name fits my goodness, it was a beast. Only went down in 1 Match out of the 4 I played. considering I hadn't used it or the Jam function before I went 1-3 but All the matches were closer than the record indicates. Everyone enjoyed seeing it, got lots of awesome feedback. Some people are ready to see 2.0 get here so they don't have to see this thing in this current incarnation and I wasn't even flying one of the aces. This thing is just beauty in action.

Read more about it here. "Fear The Reaper"

Also a couple of cool Images of the ship on the map for those who may not have had a chance to look at it yet.

Here was the list

Scarif Base Pilot: Intelligence Agent, ISB Slicer, AA, LWF

Countdown: LWF, AA

Pure Sabacc: Adrenaline Rush, LWF, AA

Duchess: Adrenaline Rush, LWF, AA

Match 1 was a loss of 40-51. One more round and it's likely 100-51.

Match 2. again close 21-48. Again one more around and it's now 58-48.

Match 3 was a loss at 61-100. Couple of bad options for me and just got beat as a result.

Match 4. 100-0 Win against Quiz, Ryad, and Quickdraw.

The list was just a pure blast to fly. Not sure I have had that much fun flying ships in some time in the 1.0 environment. I wasn't meta, but I was giving the meta nightmares they will not soon forget. A few of the guys have already commented, not wanting to see the Reaper again. Others are like okay I now need to get mine, or get mine into a list like NOW. Also fun to see everyone who finished up early stopping to watch and see what the Reaper was doing and how it was flying especially with the Strikers. I will say I think Slicers and Tactical Officer is going to be a better option in case you are not able to make use of your jam action and are in no danger of being shot at.

Anyone else have any Reaper stories?

And other good builds? I def don't have 3 strikers for this.

Great blog, nice pics! Glad you had fun! I'll be picking mine up Friday, and I can't wait to see it fly. A local flew his Reaper to Top 4 at a Store Championship Saturday, so they definitely have the potential to get things done!

@Blail Blerg it depends on what you want it to do. Death Troopers will give them a different type of control. Krenick can make them attackers. Palp makes it a maneuverable arc dodging support ship. It has a pretty high ceiling based on first impressions.

Yes but what to pair it with?

Anything you want honestly. This with an X-7 or 2 will be bonkers. Paired with Whisper or Echo creates headaches trying to figure out where stuff is going to be. ****, paired with Krenick and a couple of TLT Aggressors could be nasty. Again it’s what do you want it to do for your squad. Very versatile.

My friend brought a Reaper with Omega Leader and Quickdraw. The Reaper used Krennic's Optimized Prototype on itself to be a capable attacker on its own.

Well done!

I've managed to have one game with the reaper with pretty much an identical list - swap the officers out for Death Troopers and it's the same.

At the moment, it's just a joy to fly - I'm not sure how well the 'feel' of flying it will be preserved into 2.0 without a hard turn (because bank/turn is kind of a signature move of strikers and reapers at the moment) but yeah. It survived, and - unlike strikers - took a couple of range 1 shots with no tokens and came out the other side.

I think I personally want to try it with the tactical officer, but the ISB slicer looks cool too. Just need to find my darn Intelligence Agent crew card.

Jam was very nice. The "range 2 in arc" makes a big difference to just range 1, because a ship with ailerons moves first and finds it very easy to point its nose the right way.
