5x Rookies just won a store champs (15 or 16 people?) around here. I wasnt there, so dont know what the matchups were. Beat PalpAces in finals though.

Not surprised. It's a lot of arcs and a lot of dice providing opportunity for high variance hits. Need to fly well, and it's certainly not easy mode, but I don't think it's a bad list.
I've been really liking Targeting Astromech as a way to keep the damage flowing after the first engagement. Like a poor man's Pattern Analyzer. Don't really miss the FAA, especially when I'm flying a mixed squad with a 5th ship like a Tracer Bandit.
Can confirm 5 Rookies is totally brutal. It's extremely healthy, every ship has two actions under certain conditions. Makes the TIE swarm even more irrelevant after quad wookies. Agility is a horrible stat in X-wing once you get past 2 dice, it seems.
I flew x5 Rookie X-Wings on Saturday at one of our local store championships.
Two of them had Flight Assist Astromech, two other had R2 Astromech and the last one had Chopper.
only 11 players in attendance so the event was ran as a 4 rounds of Swiss with no cut.
I only lost one X-Wing during each round and went undefeated with a score of 693 out of 800.
I don’t know what the meta is right now, I haven’t been paying much attention to it. I’ve been playing more fun stuff. So I’m not sure if it does good against meta squads.
Matches I thought were tough were against a Boba Fett / Asaj and a Resistance Bomber squad. I think I took about 8 damage from bombs alone before I even had more than ship attacking.
I think in each match I had one ship that wasn’t even damaged.
Chopper was only used in one match to gain back two shields. R2 Astromech was only used once during the whole event. And Flight Assist was used as often as one would think.
There were a lot of rounds that I wish I was flying the Cavern Angels Zealot with Crack Shot.
S-Foils stayed in attack position the whole event as well. I never felt the need to close them.

I have been playing 5 x-wings lately and I find it to be extremely fun and very good in the current meta. Occasionally it can be pillowfisted if you don't get all guns on target. Dice variance can really hurt the list but its super fun to fly and because you have so much health its hard for a lot of enemy lists to deal with.
Its what X-Wing should be!
Went 6-0 with 5 Xwings all with FAA this past weekend at store champs. 100-0 first game, loss only 1 xwing in four games, and 2 xwings in one game.
FAA and those talons are just superb. Went against some tough lists taking out vaders, soontirs, whispers, quickdraws, RACs, mirandas, regen norras, and rebel alpha, and isb slicer reapers.
Fun list to fly with FAA. Everything ive wanted since I bought this game called X-Wing.
Also can confirm this is a tough list that I find hard to win against. FAA and talons and BR and Boost conditionally.
I gotta say. Never felt so good to lose. I'm not even mad.
Both PS2 and PS1 crack versions have been doing quite well around here winning a couple store champs. Sometimes they substitute a sheathipede in there or something for 2 of the ships though, but 5 X-wings have won.
I'll just leave this here: My favorite X-Wing swarm variant so far!
