Any mileage in an imperial pseudo-Biggs?

By gasgraham, in X-Wing

Messing around with wave 14 stuff and cake up with this chap:

Scimitar squadron pilot, tie shuttle, death troopers and lightweight frame.

Useful support to draw fire/cause stress or useless hunk of junk? I was trying to find a way of getting the death troopers in on something I don’t actually care about being shot at. Could even ditch lwf to trim even further I guess.... but I like the additional survivability it gives.

My group is pretty casual so I’ll definitely give it a run out in fun games. Just got to find what to squeeze it in alongside now.

In the limited amount of time i be b eeb thinking about 1.0 stuff, the Death Troopers bomber is something that looks good to me. I'm not sure about LWF, though. You want it to be the target, and LWF is discouraging shots against it. I'd generally prefer the points be put into the ships the bomber is protecting, but it does all depend on the squad.

Yes, good point. 18 points makes it that bit more attractive too. Good price for support/blocker

Check out Iden Versio.

Certainly will be when 2.0 hits. Just pleased there are a final few 1.0 upgrades to mess about with to help the summer go by quicker :)

Iden Versio is a super-Biggs, but only for other TIE Fighters.

For 2 points, Lightweight frame does add a fair bit of toughness, too. It depends what you're planning on supporting with it. I'm going to assume someone like Quickdraw or Gunboats - the problem with 'classic' imperial aces is that Soontir "push the limit" Fel and co are not going to be safer by being chained to a range 1 bubble of a TIE bomber than flying free and avoiding arcs of fire in the first place, no matter what the penalty for shooting at them when they are.

Blocker is a key thing here; you don't have to be able to shoot the TIE shuttle, it just has to be in your arc. If you can block an enemy ship whilst still being in its arc, it's going to have to take the stress token because it can't choose to shoot at you.

If you want a proper 'imperial biggs, can I suggest trying Major Stridan?

The Upsilon is a much bigger, beefier target - throw in sensor cluster and/or sensor jammer and/or countermeasures and it'll take quite a beating, but the nice thing is that stridan's ability extends the area effect of death troopers to range 1-3....

Yes it sure is and I do like the upsilon and stridan’s effect in particular. Will lead to a very different type of list though as yes it’s a lot beefier..... lot pricier too (no bad thing as it will take the flack... means you’re looking at 2 30-33 point aces alongside).

Added to my list of ‘things to try’ :)
