A Bit of Jank: 4-LOM

By emeraldbeacon, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I was playing around with some of the new Wave 14 upgrades, and came across a pair that could conceivably rejuvenate an otherwise forgotten ship in the meta...

  • 4-LOM (32 total points)
    • Wired
    • Cikatro Vizago
    • Black Market Slicer Tools
    • Thrust Corrector
    • Multi-Spectral Camouflage
    • Mist Hunter
    • Tractor Beam
  • Asajj Ventress (50 total points)
    • Lone Wolf
    • Ketsu Onyo
    • Glitterstim
    • Scavenger Crane
    • Countermeasures
    • Shadow Caster
  • Sunny Bounder (18 total points)
    • "Heavy Scyk" (cannon)
    • Linked Battery

Sunny is mainly there as a flanker, blocker, and nuissance. Asajj is pretty straightforward, though she trades in a bit of timewalking for some tractor shenanigans. 4-LOM, though, becomes a Stress Management Operative... he earns it with a relatively red dial, and his Thrust Corrector for defense. Wired lets him put it to good use both on offense & defense. He can dump it off at end of turn to a friend that can manage it better, or an enemy who doesn't want it. Those mods let him use a barrel roll to keep targets better in arc. BMST is there to capitalize on stress from Asajj and himself, while Cikatro allows an emergency swap out for another Illicit.

Your thoughts?

Love that 4-LOM, gonna steal it for my own squads.

This looks really annoying to fly against with all the stress and sticky tractor tokens to throw around. Only change I can really think of is dropping Multi-Spectral Camouflage and Cikatro to get Zuckuss on 4-LOM if you wanted more offense and another way to get stress tokens.

Honestly, I think BMST is a waste of points. I know you can trade it, but still...

However, the list as a whole seems like a very versatile toolkit, and fun/janky!

I use BMST because it's an ability that can be used multiple times, if the situation arises - and it synergizes well with stress-dealing builds. But it's easily traded for Contraband Cybernetics or Inertial Dampeners as needed, which both do give stress.

Yo, dem Cybernetics tho!

I guess if 4-LOM uses Contraband Cybernetics... the contraband part is... biological? Is he hooking his droid mind up to a cloned jedi brain to expand his consciousness or something?

Plus, I mean, how does IG-88 even use Glitterstim anyway? (I kinda hope Glitterstim thematically gains a "focus action" prerequisite)

I mean it can still be contraband on a droid?

In all seriousness (ha) the alternative to Sunny is to go with somebody who can potentially throw some nasty dice. A simple Binayre Pirate with a Harpoon, Guidance Chips, and a Dead Man's Switch could be just as potent - let the ordnance fly, then run in and disrupt 'em as much as you you can, before going all "Aloha Snackbar" on your enemies.

Ah, but Sunny is fun!

And more potential, though less reliable
