M&M&Ms (squad list)

By Roller of blanks, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've been looking at the saw's expansion, and I think I've found Magva's jankiest wingmate.

T A R N M I S O N + M9

M&M&Ms (98)

Magva Yarro- U-wing(25) regenade refit (-2) Sensor Jammer (4) R2-D2 (4) Recon specialist (3) Pivot wing (0)

Tarn Mison- T65-X wing (23)

M9-G8 (3) regenade refit (-2) IA (0) S-foils (0)

Poe Dameron- T70-X-wing (31)

Intensity (2) R5-P9 (3) Autothrusters (2) Primed Thrusters (1) Black one (1)

Total:98

with M9, you can reroll one of the attacker's dice, and they can't reroll anymore because they've already rerolled one.

BONUS JANK:

Rebel bumpmaster

Heff tobber

Boshek,hera,refit,title,ion projecter,Anti-pursuit lasers.

Just stay put, and let your enemies be slowly digested by the cycle of bumping :)

GOODNESS GRACIOUS THAT IS JANKY FUN.

Here is my go at it:

GOOD LUCK KILLING ME, F(_)CKER, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE I CAN KILL YOU TOO:

Start out with a little castle so Magva can bank some stress tokens to keep Ezra satisfied, which, combined with FCS, provides very respectable defense. Meanwhile, her ability and TacJam combined with the forced M9 rerolls on TWO enemy ships and Fenn's own ability makes it basically impossible to kill anyone, let along the most dangerous tank Norra, who can then hit like a semi-truck to back up Magva's mini-van like hits.

I like the M9-G8/Magva combo. That's pretty nasty. In the original list, I think I'd probably but C-3PO on Magva, and take R2-D2 on Poe. It's really a lot better with Intensity, so you don't have two cards which both want to consume the same focus token. Meanwhile, Magva getting a guaranteed evade is really nice. With nerfed attack dice, it'd be nice to just prevent the single hit directly, rather than have to regenerate it early. Also, R2-D2 doesn't start working until Magva is already half-dead, while C-3PO works from the start of the game. With Poe, I'd also take BB-8 on Intensity Poe over R5-P9. I think R5-P9 is good for budget regen, but I tend to think Optics or Intensity Poes with BB-8 or R2-D2 are just a lot better.

I also really love the M9-G8/Weapons Engineer combo. I've flown a lot of Braylen in an ARC with that combo along side Fenn Rau. Now, this list doesn't need Fenn (Magva/M9 prevent rerolls, so you only need Hotshot Copilot to take out focus tokens), but good HSCP carriers at high enough PS but low enough points cost are rare.

I almost wonder if Magva is a bit over-built. Sensor Jammer *AND* Recon Spec *AND* R2-D2 is a lot on a ship which isn't that tough. Oh, and Magva says "another Friendly" so folks will probably focus her down first. Making her a bit cheaper might be wise. Perhaps just going with Recon Specialist and either Jan Ors or C-3PO would be best, and perhaps the new Targeting Scrambler. If she isn't likely to have arc on someone, that seems like a wise use of her non-attack. She still is likely to be the first target, but being cheaper, there are fewer points at stake, which is good. She'll still easily be focus/evaded, which is solid.

Meanwhile, this might free up points to upgrade Tarn to Braylen Stramm. Tarn's free TLs can be nice, but he's not going to be the first target in this list, so it likely won't matter. Braylen gets a good deal more HP, plus double TLs, which doubles the effectiveness of M9-G8.

My version:

  • Magva (Targeting Scrambler, Recon Specialist, Jan Ors, RR) (28)
  • Braylen (title, M8-G9, Weapons Engineer) (31)
  • Poe (VI, Advanced Optics, Autothrusters, Black One, R2-D2) (we all have our preferred flavor of Poe, this is mine, to each their own) (41)

As Fig says, Magva can't protect herself, which is why I suggest Fenn

The more I think about it, I'm not sure this works.

Magva prevents the attacking ship from modifying dice. However, as we know from the FAQ entry (below) on M9-G8, the source of the modification is the ship with M9-G8, not the attacking ship . For example, Snap Shot prevents the attacking ship from rerolling dice, but M9-G8 can still force a reroll, since the source of the reroll isn't the attacking ship. If we extend that, forcing a reroll on a die with M9-G8 probably shouldn't prevent someone from rerolling dice, except for the standard "cannot reroll a die twice" rule.

M9-G8

When using M9-G8, the source of the reroll is the ship equipped with M9-G8, not the ship attacking. For example, if a ship is attacking with Snap Shot, a ship equipped with M9-G8, can cause that ship to reroll a die.

A ship equipped with M9-G8 treats friendly ships as enemy ships when it acquires target locks. For example, a ship with M9-G8 and Bodhi Rook ( ? ) equipped can acquire a target lock on any friendly ship.
