Speeders

Wondering if we will see the Rebels get something like the Imperial Bikes that sit nicely in the middle where they don't suffer from suppression or from impact.

Someone supposedly "leaked" Rebel Speeder Bikes on Facebook a while back...

That would be cool.

But I think what both sides need is a relatively cheap tank type unit. Both have a speeder, and both have a walker. Tanks that could shred infantry would be nice to cut down on trooper spam, and more vehicles could provide more incentive to take Ion, which there is nearly no use at the current cost and opposition.

Yes we need imperial tanks that are good, unlike the ATST.

The Occupier Tank from Rogue 1 would work as a second Heavy Unit.

Yes. An Imperial armored unit with Move 2 in the 7 Wound range with a Flame/Spray option would be great. It could really cut down on Rebel Trooper spam and give the Rebels more incentive to take some Impact.

One of the balance issues is that Rebel Impact is only useful against AT-STs, and they're so strong that the dominant play is to not shoot at them. Just use Z-6s for troop murder.

Following that theme, a similar Rebel tank with a low profile and real impact punch could actually allow them to take on an AT-ST. A low profile and no compulsory would give it the survivability that the T-47 lacks.

And while I'm at it, an APC capacity would be a nice addition for both.

I would really love to see some cheap troop transports in the game. Get those snowies into good positions ;) As we get more and more "stuff" there'll be more options than just taking troop spam... I hope.

I could see the rebels getting something like Luke's landspeeder/ type thing. That would be sweet.

I've also thought about this. My main concern is that it would likely have to be this:

Image result for imperial troop transport rebels

This is the Imperial Troop Transport or the Recon Transport most commonly seen in Star Wars Rebels: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Imperial_Troop_Transport

My problem with this is two-fold.

  1. It looks like a floating box. Not streamlined or aesthetically pleasing in any way. Which from a utility perspective may be a non issue, functionality over aesthetics (see the MRAP) but in our make-believe sci-fi universe you have some license to make things look the way that I want may be objectively better.
  2. Their appearances and performance are not in accordance with Imperial standards. This Rebel propaganda makes our elite soldiers look the fool!

That said, I'd pre-order one the instant I could.

But let's say that FFG goes for it. How it would be costed, and what it's stats would look like? Maybe something like:

  • Repulsor Vehicle
  • Compulsory/Free Move 2 (maybe can be stopped with an ability on the card so it can hold down an area after it deploys its squad)
  • Speed 2 (Should it be speed 3? How much faster is it than troopers running on foot? Is it as fast as a bike or airspeeder? This is also mitigated by its compulsory/free move so it can actually cover ground)
  • Armour
  • 5/6 HP
  • Resilience 2
  • Transport: One unit of troopers can embark upon it if the leader is in base contact at the end of a move. One unit of troopers may disembark as a move action and use the rear notches on the base as their starting point.
  • Can't Dodge (Ponderous or Hulking or Lumbering, something like that)
  • Can't Climb or ignore Height 1 terrain like other repulsors can (maybe same as above)
  • Comm Upgrade slot
  • Hardpoint Upgrade Slot
  • No Melee
  • Base Weapon - Nose Mounted Blaster Cannons: Fixed Front, Range 1-2, 2 Red Dice 2 White Dice (a good gun but short range and fixed)
  • Harpoint Upgrade - Dorsal Laser Turret: Fixed Front/Right/Left (i.e. can't shoot backwards, maybe it has to use a pivot move action to traverse the turret in a particular direction) Range 1-3, 3 Black Dice, Impact 1
  • No Arsenal (shooting both of those guns every turn may be a bit too much)
  • I'm not sure what point costs should be, I think maybe less than bikes but more that the turret. 55/60 points maybe, 20 points for the turret upgrade for 75/80 points

Use it to wheel your Snowtroopers into position then hold down a lane?

Wow, THAT imperial troop transport. I had one of those 35 years ago and it was probably one of the dullest SW toys in the range :)

It was one of those bizarre toys we all ended up with that never appeared in the films, but has over time been retro-added into the lore.

(PS. I do love it of course, just reflecting on how it came to be....)

Yes, I think those points and abilities seem to all make sense. Maybe speed 3 would be too strong, but speed 2 for sure with a compulse move. In Dust Warfare they had tanks and helicopters and such that troops could sit in until the decided to embark out. During deployment, instead of placing the troopers on the board, one of your deployment actions was to place the troopers into the transport. It would also take an action to disembark the transport. Maybe the unit must be within range 1 when they exit, but they still have one other action to use. So you could pop out range 1 away from the transport and then blast away. The only thing I am unsure of is, with Legion's activation mechanics while the unit is in the transport what happens when you draw the trooper token, do you just say the guys inside are chilling for their activation? I wouldn't mind that.

Yea, fair point about the activation mechanics. Maybe you have both of the tokens and you can activate the transport first then the troopers to disembark or vice versa.

I think starting the game deployed inside would be fine. That's something that they could easily add to the RRG.

I TOTALLY disagree! It had those noises/voices that made it absolutely awesome, for about an hour ;)

I think the TX-225 is a logical choice to be added soon - that'll be fun :)

The TX-225 looks awesome but what are those red boxes on it's back, cargo? And if so could it be used as some kind of open topped transporter without it`?

An open top transport would be nasty! The transport does all the moving while the guys inside are free to aim and shoot. Lol

according to someone's LEGO rendition, most definitely

Rebel troop cart as a companion to imp troop transport

Cargo was Kyber crystals weren't they? Partisans were shown looting them in Rogue 1 if I'm not mistaken.

Give it time boys, give it time. FFG will add all the plastic crack.

And the stormtrooper transport was awesome .... a long time ago in a century now forgotten.

Disagree - the transport is still awesome. Imperial design is brutalist, not shiny and eye-pleasing, their basic transport vehicle being basically a floating armoured box is a perfect fit and it has enough surface greebling to look interesting IMO.

In EA's Battlefront 2 Rebels do have access to Luke's speeder model with a gun on the hood. Could be very possible as Rebels also have the AT-RT in that game.

Rebels will probably get swoops or something.

Technically the airspeeder is like a speederbike, but better in every way (cover, speed 3, more health, better attacks and arsenal for multi target attacks with utility potential, ignores taller terrain, isn’t crippled at 3 damage).

In every way except cost per turns lived.

I mean, it only needs to survive twice as long, and with armor and immunity to pesky melee, that seems almost certain as compared to the same thing but without armor.
