Wave 14 ships - No Quick Build cards?

By Crabbok, in X-Wing

Picked up Wave 14 today, and was excited to be able to try out some 2.0 gameplay.... but there are no Quickbuild cards? I thought that was one of the primary things about 2.0 - the Quick Build cards you could use if you didn't have the app? Why are there none in Wave 14?

For reference, here's my unboxing - (Shameless plug)

Because the 2.0 inclusion was done very last minute.

Well in that case I'm just going to have to build them however the heck I want. I think we can look at what they have in 1.0 and use our best judgement to come up with some reasonable builds for early sample 2.0 games.

Remember, each Threat Level is approx 25 points (12 in 1.0 vernacular).

It seems that 2.0 stuff was rushed here, even some designs are different from core set and conversion sets. I'm waiting for a reprint.

What do you do with that information without point costs?

You can estimate costs of the upgrades that have an analog from 1.0.

In other words, if Crackshot is 1 point in 1.0, then it stands to reason that in 2.0 it costs twice as much.

It's the best we have at the moment, in order to try and play with the new 2nd edition content from wave 14.

Wouldn't you want to try some of it out?

Why can't FFG figure out some threat cards and post them as a printable online PDF or something? It would be nice to have a way to proxy some stuff...

Because there’s no way that makes them money. All 5 employees could be doing more important stuff. Remember, 2.0 isn’t out yet.

well no threat cards is disappointing.

Because its a 1.0 expansion with a mini conversion kit included as a bonus. You're not supposed to be able to play 2.0 with it because 2.0 isn't out yet. They're not going to give you fully serviceable content for a game that is not available yet.

Well, I've been thinking about it and these probably work well enough:

Sounds like a great opportunity for some community-designed threat cards.

Remember:

  • As was stated, each threat level is roughly 25 points in 2.0 (or 12-13 points in 1.0)
  • Threat card builds only include upgrade cards that come with the expansion pack in question and the core set.
  • Though not explicitly states, every pilot / upgrade card in the pack should probably appear somewhere on the threat cards at least once.

Ready, GO! :D

I thought the builds could also include core set upgrades?

That a bad move from FFG to not include the threat cards however I understand they rush the content because I think people will be far more upset about buying a 1.0 ship who will be obsolete few months later thank to the 2.0 version.

I expect they will put it on the new squad builder or may be a Pdf when they release the 2.0 version.

Tournament with only threat card is one of the new thing I'm excited for !

Quite clearly the old wording, obsolete iconography and lack of threat cards tells us these ships are from version 1.9 of X-Wing.

Your are not to play 2.0 before the 2.0 core box is available!

It bugs me a bit that there is no 'little missile icon" on the torpedo card, which means that range bonus wont apply, like Alex stated there will and shown in the preview videos... so how many versions of basically the same cared will be there, once 2.0 is a thing?

You are right. Thanks. Fixing now.

So that's good isn't it? We can use these version of the missiles and get R1 bonuses :)

On range 2-3 protons? ?

OK, we can sneakily swap our opponents’ Core Set/Conversion Kit cards for these dodgey ones so that we get a R3 bonus when they shoot us. I’ve got +7 Slight of Hand, shouldn’t be a problem.

As I said threat levels are mostly going to be for campaign/story play and not competitive. With wave 13 being an obscure ship and some ships that are already out I wouldn't consider that as a problem.

The TIE-Reaper could just be used as a broken OP Boss that you have to one-on-one against at the end of the campaign. Threat Level 7

Just curious do you have a source for FFG saying they are making campaigns or Missions for 2.0? I can see players creating them I just have nto seen FFG say it and if they have I would like to check out the article of interview or video.
