Update: I stayed up almost all night and updated the Adversaries Anthology to include all the new adversaries in Shadow of the Beanstalk. Newly rearranged by genre also.

Wow, thanks!

@drainsmith

if you already took the effort of doing it in indesign, could you please align some starting adversary sections to the start of the next column or page ?

Some Examples

  • on page #1: "Ancient Dragon (Nemesis)" would benefit from starting at the next (ie. right) column.
  • on page #1: "Arcane Scientist (Nemesis)" would benefit from starting at the next page.
  • and on page #10: "Ice Wyrm (Nemesis)" would benefit from starting at the next page.
  • page #12: is an edge case

from a usability point of view there is no point against spilling a long section from the left column to the right column

but having section header (and some) on the left column and the rest of the section on the right column just hurts my eyes

yet further splitting sections (shorter than a column) across pages reduces in-play usability greatly

since this is electronic paper you cant get short on pages

another thing: can you switch on "Bookmark/Table of Contents" creation on PDF output ?

my 2c, ignore me if your milage may vary.

@Terefang

I did exactly that with Talents Expanded, but on this the sections were so long that it left large blank areas on pages which I didn't like the look of. Normally spaces like that would be filled with artwork but I'm already stretching the bounds of fair-use with this. But you do have a point. I'll do that in the next version. A TOC didn't make sense for this because it is all one section, but it does have a hyperlinked index.

Ah! That's what I get for not double checking. Sorry about that. Link is now updated.

@Terefang @GMTron

wow this looks so much better now, and the pdf outlines make the anthology really useful on electronic reader too

four thumbs up

Looks great will read through it this evening

thanks for all the work @drainsmith

These look good in terms of matching the format of the original, but have you considered bulleting the walls of text that comprise each section or at least putting the name of something as a different colored font (or some other way of visually distinguishing where one begins and the previous one ends. For example using the Baronial Knight:

original:

Quote
Equipment:
Sword (Melee [Light]; Damage 6; Critical 2; Range [Engaged]; Defensive 1), lance (Melee [Light]; Damage 9; Critical 3; Range [Engaged]; Knockdown; a lance can only be used while mounted and can only be used to attack immediately after performing a maneuver to engage the target), large shield (Melee [Light]; Damage 4; Critical 5; Range [Engaged]; Defensive 2, Deflection 2, Inaccurate 2, Knockdown), plate armor (+2 soak, +1 defense), war mount (see page 105)

could be

Quote
Equipment:
  • Sword (Melee [Light]; Damage 6; Critical 2; Range [Engaged]; Defensive 1)
  • lance (Melee [Light]; Damage 9; Critical 3; Range [Engaged]; Knockdown; a lance can only be used while mounted and can only be used to attack immediately after performing a maneuver to engage the target)
  • large shield (Melee [Light]; Damage 4; Critical 5; Range [Engaged]; Defensive 2, Deflection 2, Inaccurate 2, Knockdown), plate armor (+2 soak, +1 defense)
  • war mount (see page 105)

possibly with bullets, but even without the line breaks (if saving space is your goal), the italics (or a color change) would break up the wall of text considerably. For myself, the stat blocks as they appear are extremely hard to read.

I am really reluctant to do that because it is extremely tedious. Building this as it is was fairly easy since it was all copy/paste with a lot of automatic formatting in InDesign. Going through every one and formatting it specially will probably make me want to kill myself.

I would be willing to reformat this if its in a format that I can process/handle. Was this done in Indesign, GM Binder, or something else?

How do you make those awesome covers? I would love to add something like that to my setting PDFs.

This is amazing!

Sorry. I only just saw this. @Korlall Made a user friendly version of my cover art template. You can get it here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1UK0C6H7N0k8uCVtjQ5sSOiD4eRoG4onR

Also, I have updated the main document. Everything has dice pools now!

Thank you for this great job!

If i may.... adding pictures would be amazing !!! ?

This is true of the official profiles as well, but it is somewhat difficult to parse the Equipment entries. Even just capitalizing and emboldening the proper names would help a bunch with reading those sections.

This is a really great resource, thank you for the time you have put into it. I see that there is a very functional Index, which is excellent. I also see that there have been several requests/ suggestions that have been entertained, and with that I'd like to put my own request forward.

Specifically, I'd find it very useful to be able to look stats up by setting. With the array of possible settings outlined in the CRB, and the generic nature of the core system, it seems like any collection of adversaries could benefit from being organized for utility. For myself, I run a homebrew game not set in a fantasy universe (Well actually it's somewhat Lovecraftian with time-travel elements, so Fantasy-Horror), and so having Adversaries grouped by setting would be useful.

Long term, having the document designed with setting-centric sections would facilitate updating as new source material becomes available, and, potentially, make adding any fan content easier as well.

Just a thought, and regardless, again I appreciate the effort that has already gone into this very useful tool. Thank you.

@Kordak I plan on doing just that after the Android book comes out. Right now this document is nearly all fantasy. If they're not fantasy then they are from the 3-5 examples from each setting given in the CRB.

Any plans on putting the NPC's from Haunted City in this?

Oh, I forgot about that. Yes, I will do that soon.

I love this. Was it created in MS Word or something compatible with Word? I'd love to be able to edit it.

Thanks!

It was made with InDesign, I believe. Definitely not a basic word processor!
