Best setting for a new campaign?

By Nostromoid, in Star Wars: Armada

If I was, say, writing a homebrew campaign for Armada, what's a good planetary system to hold it? Something equivalent to the Corellian Conflict, so it should have a good two dozen planets or so, with a couple of well-known planets (e.g., Corellia, Centerpoint), a few that have established identities (e.g., Duros, Nubia), and some filler locations. As I started writing, the campaign turned into a bigger thing than just a tweak of the CC, so I'd like to strike out from that starting point and set it somewhere new.

Right now I'm leaning toward the Arkanis sector, since that contains Tatooine and Geonosis, and nearby it has Rodia, Ryloth, and Christophsis. It also has two big hyperlanes for interesting movement options.

Also looking at the Tion cluster, the Midrim area around Taanab, the Raioballo sector, the area around Naboo and Malastare with its nice ring of hyperlanes, or doing a wider area that encompasses Yavin, Mandalore, and Dathomir.

Calling on you Star Wars loremasters out there.

Area around Fondor or outer rim near mon Cala.

If FFG ever adds a 3rd faction via scum/neutrals I'd love to see a campaign that involves all 3 factions (minimum 2) set in Hutt space/outer rim. The idea that the imperial are stretched thin with caps set on their best units and heroes are not plentiful instead it's more generic commanders who are stuck out in the less enviable positions. Scum trying to hijack imperial shipments which competes with rebels trying to do the same. Makes it a grittier campaign with resources more scarce. If it was large enough too, with enough players have a diplomacy system in place. But yeah I think outer rim systems would be cool

I reckon it's worth working out the "story" you want to tell in the campaign before you work out the setting. For example, a campaign about the Imperials driving the Rebels out of their bases in the Outer Rim would feature a different setting than a story about the Rebels taking Imperial strongholds in the aftermath of Endor.

Feel free to share story idea - would love to hear it.

Oh, for sure I had some kind of plan for yet another campaign where the 3rd faction is a pirate fleet that has to commandeer ships from the other sides. Start with fighters and corvettes, and eventually claim ships that are defeated from other factions.

For now, I think I've worked out some good locations in or adjacent to the Arkanis sector: Tatooine, Geonosis, Vuzsa, Arkanis, Vor Deo, D'Anjon Nebula, Foroon, Andooweel, Najiba, Piroket, Sirpar, Sentinel Moon, The Gulf of Tatooine, Pii, Issor, Cranan, Cirus II, Khubeaie, Obana.

Clone Wars Outer Rim

In campaign I got started (currently planning out the next mission) with my group, I let them pick a location to start at which turned out to be Mon Cala. The mission setup was written to have the rebels flee and try to escape after the Empire found them starting on whatever planet the players chose. It was quite fun for both GM(me) and the players especially giving them a way to play out their story. I started a thread under batrep. I just need to set up another session to continue the story.

The old "Galactic Gazzeteer: Hoth and the Greater javin" supplement for Wizard's Star Wars RPG line has a lot of Intel on the systems and even a map of the area surrounding Hoth. I always thought the campaign would give controlling hyperlanes importance, and with a massive nebula covering the map, it gives a bunch of interesting options to create a narrative campaign or a military-focused one.

It's still around for download (legally, it was a free supplement), but you might have to delve a bit through google. Or I can try to find it and send it to you, if you really want it. it must be on one of my USBs.

Campaign to take/defend Imperial Centre.

Defence stations naturally ?

Update: I've jumped into it based on the Arkanis sector around Tatooine and Geonosis. I will be putting out a big packet with the first fully playable draft of the campaign soon.

The two most recent good sectors would have been:

-Mon Cala and base it on recent Vader comics.

-Lothal as it could almost be a reskin of CC with minor tweaks.

I've been working on one for Mon Cala. Have a rough draft of rules. I think I posted it once, actually.

A long time ago, in a thread far far down the page list. (I'm not sure I ever even saw it.)

"Campaigns of unusual size? I don't they exist."
