Is Armada dead? (Serious question)

No one has an issue with game balance tho. Thats actually part of the frustration. If Armada had more serious issues inherent to gameplay, we wouldnt be so annoyed with FFGs release schedule and inability to communicate. We’d just move on. But we want more, because the game is so good.

I think this represents a great interpretation of events.

For a game set in space, the sky seems to be falling fairly often. ;)

People are only venting at the collapse of their local communities... Can't blame them for that.

No, well, we can .

This is the internet after all.

Its just... Commenting on it is basically equally as useless as the venting in the first place. Its not like I can do anything about it...

Expecting anything but pushback on negative comments is expecting too much.

Expecting people to not post negative comments is expecting too much.

We have a whole lot of expecting too much going on here, on all sides :D

so, i've seen some armada videos on youtube, I have found a few people who played locally but never got in contact with each other, found that several people wanted to learn, got excited, just ordered the core set....

then I see this thread, and worry that I may be buying into a dying game. lovely.

Don't worry morf, it's money well spent.

Welcome aboard.

Yeah, even if it is dead (as it seems likely....) there are plenty of products out there so you can still buy anything you want and have the whole experience. So you may have joined in the last right moment ;)

In a more uplifting note than the above two @Morfedel I don't think the game is dead.

There is a healthy choice of Ships/Squadrons/Upgrades on both sides Imps and Rebs, and quite a diversity of ways to play and fleet-styles to roll with! In regards to your community..

if you have this situation armada is very much alive (as @Drasnighta as put armada being dead is relevant to peoples local scenes getting smaller) if you have people want to learn you're in the opposite situation of a local scene growing! So I encourage you and the others you played against to get into it together and have fun! Store/National/World Championships are a thing if you're into and I'm sure you will have one around you (no more than a few hours away at most) set up that you could attend as well.

For help on what to buy and what to fly check out the fleet build section of the forum and try out these blogs written by players within the community and on the forums.

Welcome to the game! :)

Well, here in Copenhagen the game thrives. We have a decent size community and a good amount of tournaments and other community activities. The local Facebook community page helps a lot to keep people engaged.

I personally have no problem with a release rate of twice a year as long as the game is good (it is) and that the balances is in a good place (it is).

German Championship sold out for the first time ever, max player count was extended, and sold out again.

Dying game doesnt do that.

Fwiw, the game itself is phenomenal.

understand when *I* say dead, I mean "the game is no longer being developed."

but thanks for the words of encouragement

That's because increasingly more often these days, the game is set inside dark Plano cases tucked away on the back of game shelves.

Just FYI for my Hunstvegas, Pensacola, and Atlanta bruvs (and sisters ? ) , I'm trying to get games going in Birmingham, starting with the OP kits. If I can get more time to talk with Our FLGS owner, Ill let you know if I can branch out from that into non-OP kits.

I’ve actually just moved to Gadsden and have gotten a guy in Bham into the game. So there is some support there

In my opinion, if you have people to play with once in a while, the game won't feel like it's dying. (And I don't think it is.) I started playing with just a group of six people (including me), and just recently I got interested in the tournament scene, and found more people to play with (although I do have to travel more).

I am probably lucky. 30 minutes away from me is a store that has a regular crowd of Armada players on Thursday nights, and 60 minutes in the other direction is a store that had 9 people come out to a seasonal tournament, maybe more for the store tournament. And when I hang out with those guys I seldom hear a word about Armada dying.

A lot of people enter the game because they love OT era ships, apart from SSD I think all OT ships even R1 is in the gameplay. So even if they stop the development process, there are fun pieces to play with.

As for the community, if there are none, try to create one. Thats what I am trying to do, invite friends over who are interested in SW or gaming, let them see the beautiful miniatures, some John Williams soundtrack in the background and voilà, we are playing our first game. ( so far I managed to recruit one regular player who got his own set, still better than nothing)

We’re told there are still products in development.

Our last wave came out four months ago.

you mean 6

Let's rephrase the original statement then:

FFG most likely tries hard to kill Armada but it refuses to die :P

Wave 7 released 02/01/18 it’s currently 06/24/18

Best argument could be made for 5 months considering how late in June it is, but going by month only, it was 4.

The lead designer was moved to Legion and there hasn’t been an article even saying, “Hey guys we haven’t forgotten this game.” Do the math. Truth is hard to accept sometimes.

My gut feeling is they are trying to duplicate their initial financial success from 2012 when they released x-wing. If they can’t, they will probably be done with the Star Wars license. Asmodee has been a leech, to put it mildly.

Moved is not the correct term.

Doubled perhaps...

i mean, he’s also a lead designer for X Wing... and we know they didn’t stop that game when they had him make Armada... ?

Interesting, I didn’t know that. I read the legion preview article where they interviewed him and he was listed as the Armada creator or lead designer etc. i don’t recall a mention of x-wing but that was a while ago.

It’s Alex Davey...

He designs EVERYTHING miniature in at least an adjutant way ?

Anout the onlybthing he doesn’t dive into too much is the card game side ?

its all listed in credits most of the time ?
