Is Armada dead? (Serious question)

By Slaughteralus, in Star Wars: Armada

I've been out of the game for a while, personal reasons and whatnot. Coming back after...a year or two, and it seems like ffg has given up on Armada, outside of tournament support. X wing gets all the new expansions, but Armada has basically gotten nothing since i left.

So... at least as far as new content, support from FFG...is Armada dead?

What's X wing?

It's not in great shape but It's not dead yet. our last announcement was August, our last release was Late Jan/Early Feb. Some people have hope, others like my cynical self are pretty pissy at FFG over it and ready to jump ship as soon as a better system actually pops up(sadly Armada really is one of the best table top's out there right now).

There's always the possibility that FFG is just so focused on X-wing 2.0 and Legion that armada's just taking the back seat for a bit, but that's not the greatest excuse if you want to keep a community together.

Of course Armada is dead, it has been for years now.

I think if nothing is announced by Gencon then maybe then we can pronounce it dead. I like to live in hope.

We have been conditioned to expect new releases every few month, with brand new models, ships, upgrades and admirals. It's the FFG business model, and generating excitement by revealing new stuff is how they make that new stuff sell.

We've now had a longer-than-usual delay since the last new release. It's possible this is due to FFG's focus on X-wing 2.0, because they need new classic-era films with new ships to be released (there's a notable lack of potential Imperial ships), or other delays. Alternatively it may be because FFG has ended development of Armada.

However that doesn't mean that Armada is dead. A dead game is no longer produced or played, and Armada is far from that state. It's in a reasonable state of balance (compare it to X-Wing 1.0!), is popular and is buyable.

Will I be happy if Armada doesn't get any extra shinies? No.

But is it still a very good, highly playable, decently balanced game for which everything is available? Yes.

So whatever the result, Armada is far from dead as far as I'm concerned.

Stop it

Armada is not dead... armada transcended!

Oh Armada's not dead.... not yet.

I think we're expected to live with the lower development cycles. Our minis are larger than the other lines', and our game appears more complex (can't speak for legion). We certainly seem to have more moving parts than X-Wing or Imperial Assault at any rate. It's taking a while to pump out ships that don't sell like incidental hotcakes. Not much can compete with the $15 per unit exp model of X-Wing, or the 40K bait that is Legion.

Our last wave came out four months ago.

The game is in an okay balancing state so if FFG pulls the plug the community can keep it alive for a long time. The only thing stopping me from actually going full community design madman is that, officially, it's still alive. So, should I spend the money I save for sweet sweet Armada plastic on a fan-made Venator? What if the new wave IS the oficial Venator? I mean, I would have a nice fan Venator, but the money! Nothing pains me more than spending money on something I technicaly have already.

It's this limbo state that's killing me. I can't go full fan-made. I get nothing official. Existence is pain.

wave 7 was not released here until late April (to late for Nationals), so what seems long to us is the delay between announcment and release. so eventual Gencon Epiphania will not touch us before May 2019 at best....

But we're a poor, underdevelopped 65 millions European Country, producing nothing but Wine (and Whines, too!) and Cheese, so we are expected to wait long for news.... ?

And that wave was extremely late man. I don’t see any sign of a release for this year. Don’t forget that the only wave we got this year was supposed to have arrived in 2017. Without new product, players will continue to leave and find other games. Legion has monthly releases and is really catering to their players. It’s a shame they didn’t do this with armada. 3 or 4 waves a year would have have really kept this game in high gear.

Alright, but like... our last wave was four months ago.

Also, OP said he was coming back after a year or two.

I'm guessing you don't understand the production necessary to put out a single wave, in a country that's 6000 miles away. Trying to do that every 3 months would be an impossibility.

They say the heart of Ar-ma-da is still beating
And from what I've seen I believe 'em
Now the old boy may be barely breathing
But the heart of Ar-ma-da, heart of Ar-ma-da is still beating

But he wants a thing! And isn't THAT the most important part?

And (potentially) burned it out of ideas by now.

I still think that FFG needs better communication more than anything.

That being said, I would rather not know and wait and recieve good, balanced upgrades.

The alternative is fast, unbalanced garbage and that would be worse for Armada long term.

Fast, unbalanced garbage: do I make a Magic the Gathering joke or a Privateer Press joke....

Still hoping/expecting a major announcement for Armada and X-wing that is Clone Wars content. Movie quote at the top of the article better be Yoda: "Begun, the Clone Wars have."

When FFG institutes a BAN list for cards or ships, I'll quit....

Tourney a couple weeks ago had 12 show up! So not dead at all I would say.

"Victory you say? Master Obi-wan, not victory."

-Yoda talking about list choices for tournaments, 22 BBY

I don’t even need new expansions. Even some articles or something would be nice. Ya know, just to show they care.

Dang it, we are getting pretty pathetic aren’t we....
