Sato Hammerhead Gunline

By The Jabbawookie, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

An attempt at a Sato swarm. The idea is to throw three black dice at long range five times, using TFO + IF to greedily crit fish. Is this worth Sato, or is it better to go for Rieekan, more Hammerheads and fewer squads? Being not too experienced with Sato, I’m not sure about the squadron complement, or what to put for the yellow objective. Advice is much appreciated!

If you are crit fishing, do torpedo DCaps + ACM or APT.

Tycho 2 VCX and 2 Hwks works really well and allows you to use strategic objectives.

With either ordinance experts or TFO

Torp HH Dcaps + ACM + ord experts is 50pts, add TFO and make it 51pts and your pretty much guaranteed the crit at long range...

Often i dont take TFO cause ord experts is often enough, wiith a CF token if im rolling poor.

@Tiberius the Killer flew a list like this against me, except he put APTs on each of the Hammerheads (that I think were of the torpedo variant). Each one had APTs and Dcaps. Really cool looking fleet that actually could drop a whole ton of face-up damage... assuming the APT could trigger... which he struggled to do against me... Sorry Tiberius...

Remember your squads are for painting ships only. If you get tangled up in a squad fight you will lose your squads and your admiral. They arent there to shield your ships, those have to play like this is more or less a squadronless build you need them ensuring you are throwing lots of black dice.

I've run a couple versions but all are the same core-

Mc75 ord with either launchers and WAB or Rapid Reload and APT/ACM.

3x hammerheads with dcap, TFO, OE, and crit effect (a build I shamelessly stole from I think @Aresius)

And then tycho, shara, and generic a-wings and or hwks.

You gotta time the strike right, but I find I greatly prefer having a chin to keep the flight alive and deliver a knockout punch rather than tying all the points up in smalls.

Same with James. I think we figured out that after rolling the dice 25 times and having no crits was like a 1/600 chance or something. It was awful.

Yeah not having something that can take damage is very hard. In that list I took a pelta with Lando that could usually survive at least one round. But not much more than that. I may have to try the MC75 with it.

Here was my take on it. Which I certainly won more than I lost after playing 8 or 9 games with it.

I'd say replace Luke with Wedge, but eh. Save a point, and since you're probably going to be pushing Tycho and either a HWK or an A with your transport, you'll be activating Wedge after your opponent comes after your fighters.

The reason I use Luke is he pairs very well with the APTs. Lots of direct damage that bypasses shields. There have been many times he has been able to deal the last damage need for an APTed ship.

I see that (hence my “eh”). Was my only real thought, and even that wasn’t a strong feeling ?

You need both TFO and OE, the one reroll will not cut it. That is all I really know from playing against sato nonstop for the past few months.

As someone that runs sato all the time (almost always with at least 2 hammerheads), you cannot rely on OE alone to get you the cries especially because that is the most devestating part of the attack. TFO is so cheap that I always include it and always end up using it.

Just played my Sato gunline at a store tournament. Did not go well. Unfortunately there are many times when not even OE and TFO are enough?.

Double sad.

Out of curiosity what was the finished list?

It’s a couple of posts above. I think I took exactly that. Not sure what happened. I don’t think it was just mistakes, though I certainly made some. But I seemed to struggle against every list I faced.

I honestly think the problem is the pelta. Unless you are using it as a medic, shields to max, projection experts with task force Antilles, I don’t think it has a place in a sato list. It’s just unreliable with no form of rerolls. I would either replace that with salvation or replace the pelta and a hammerhead (maybe 2) with an ordnance cruiser

If I do it again, that's probably exactly what I'll do.
