So, new set in 2 weeks, if anyone is left to care.

By Mep, in Star Wars: Destiny

Very late, but it is coming to a game store near you, if you are in north America that is.

This board has all but died out. I know my play group went from hot when legacies came out to now dead. How is everyone else doing? Is this set too little too late now?

"I care." - Luke Skywalker , A New Hope

The game isnt that dead, clearly the sales are still up otherwise they wouldnt be producing still.

Its just not anywhere near as widespread as xwing or even armada (which isnt even half as popular as xwing)

I have never posted on the Destiny forum, but I saw this and felt like commenting. We have a small group that loves this game and buys a pretty decent amount of it. We don't play at a local flgs or do any of the organized play. We just play casually. Maybe there are a lot of small pockets out there like us?

Late is better than never, plus I'm very interested in the direction the new sets are going

I know a few people that come out to our local store that only play casually. They are fun and solid players. Great to practice against. They just dont care for any of the kits or higher level play. So no you are not alone :D

Even in a much bigger game, Magic the Gathering, the casual scene is far bigger than the "official" scene

In my area there are MAYBE15 people that play MTG in tournament-style, while theres easily well over 100 that just play Vintage (as in, all cards that arent banned no cycling) or Commander and actively avoid the "i win by turn3" strats because theyre boring.

I've been to one Destiny tournament, yet ive been playing Destiny every week with a couple friends anyway.

It's alive, just a small hibernation perhaps? I am guessing that SWD will start warming up if this completed cycle is as good as it's looking.

Destiny is very much alive and prospering. Like any game it has its cycle of activity - sometimes more sometimes less. Activity has been kicking up ever since Way of the Force spoilers started dropping. I think the reason it is attracting more interest is the dedicated player base reacted very positively to the changes made in the FAQ, a very well attended and well spoken of Worlds and to be honest the player base has gotten more into recruiting. Our store meta started tiny and now our weekly Open Gaming for Destiny is always good for a dozen or more, and our Store Championship is already sold out.

Some people in my store have been getting out of Destiny or are out entirely. Then there are also a few people getting into it. The new set will decide and show how much life is in the game.

Have a store championship this weekend. I'm interested to see how many show up, and how many of those are from our previously very active local group, but have been pretty much dormant since the end of March.

Do post and let us know. Locally it feels like everyone stayed “in” the game, but many are playing less often. My small group of 6+ probably plays more... we’ve been pulling out old and forgotten characters and trying to make them hum. ie: Kanan/Ashoka and K2/Yoda are my most active decks

Wow. I wish Armada gameplay was as active as Destiny. It’s forums are more active, game?, not so much.

Sadly those awards don't mean much. Origins Awards are a bit of a running joke in the tabletop community and have been for some time. Heck, even FFG actively avoided the awards and nominating its own games up until Asmodee bought them out.

Well lets hope the new set breaths some life back into this game.

The game at my LGS:

I see some promising new content and progress on the mechanics and playstyles!

Store Championship (Lindsay's Gamer Garrison, northern burbs of Chicago) had 13 people. None of our local regulars aside from me and my son, although most of them were supporting a new store having their grand opening the same day. I didn't stick around to see what took the event, but Yoda Hondo was among them. Lots of Yodas and Hondos on the day, not always together.

I ran Palp (Galactic Emperor) and Bib Fortuna, went 1-3, not unexpectedly. Win was a pretty awesome moment of using The Price of Failure to roll in Palp again, needing to roll 4 damage in order to deal the 6 left to Mother Talzin. Took both my available re-rolls for the steal.

My wife and I participated in the Store Championship at Dragon's Den in Stockton, CA yesterday afternoon. 20 people turned out for the event. I thought that kind of turnout was a huge win for the game considering eight months ago no LGS even carried the product.

It was 4 round Swiss, cutting to Top 4 that played Best 2/3. The top four...

  1. eSeventh/Cienna/Nightsister
  2. eKylo/eTalzin
  3. eRey [Awakenings]; eAayla; Jawa
  4. eSabine; eEzra

Meanwhile in my area all the Store Championships are full (we advertised 16 seats and have over 35 signups so some adjustment will be needed). Also all of our WotF boxes we allocated for presale are gone. I think our Championship benefits from being right after the release.

Store Championship on 6/24/18 here had 36 people. We have at least 8 more store champs scheduled between now and August, with people excited to attend.

And we have 10-14 weekly events (some at different stores at the same date/time, so impossible to hit them all) at the various game store in the surrounding Twin Cities area.

Sure, it's FFG's backyard, but in our yard, the game is doing just fine.

welp, its changed to Shipping now with a release of 7/05/18 stamp on it.

Bout freakin' time.

Glad to hear some people's play groups have stuck around and survived the drought.

Haven't posted in a while, but destiny seems to have a good amount of support in my area. Three local stores are holding store championships. One already passed and had 14 people. Personally, I'm not a fan of the new direction of the game, and I'm not very interested in the cards that have been spoiled for the new set. Partially, that's because I wasn't a fan of TLJ and I just don't really want to play with those characters.

But that's neither here nor there. This will be the first time I won't be buying the boxes for a set, but I'm sure there are many other players that will do so.

Couple local stores have WotF in. Cracked my first pack tonight and pulled Snoke, I am excite. Bunch of the cards seem gamey in a good way, hopefully the whole wave is solid.
