Your Take on Comm Jammers

By Fl1nt, in Game Masters

Hi ?

I've been prepping for a Oneshot with my group and the Comm Jammer came up, as one of my Group will be playing a non-combat character but still wants to be helpful for the group in combat situations.

My problem is, that the RAW Rules seem to be pretty broad / non existent when it comes to the Comm Jammer or other Equipment like that. Sure it requires an Computers Check to counteract.

I was going to make it work in up to medium range after being set up with an action and require (for the "normal" Comm Jammer) a Hard Difficulty Computers Check to compensate. But I'm really unsure if this is viable, overpowered or underpowered.

How do / would you handle these things?

Thanks so much for your insights.

If there's no concrete rules, make it a plot device. It works as long as the plot needs it to work and it works as well or poor as the plot needs it to. Say they are breaking into a building for a heist. Comm Jamming is only part of the situation. The device needs to be on site, possibly in a broadcast/server room and all that. Once setup, it's possible another could deactivate it, so someone might consider staying behind to guard it, though that would slow down the operation with less manpower.

I’d say raspberry appears to be the most effective.

I'd have your PC monitoring frequencies and then do an opposed computer check to scramble the opponents comms.

That sounds interesting, I think I'll do that. Thank you ?

IF (only if) you want more details when it comes to comms, I covered it in my Vehicle Ops series: Signals Intel

A very interesting read. Thanks alot Sturn ?

And remember, if they arent saying anything interesting, send in a few B-52s to make them..... Oh wait, that was real life.....

Send in the B-52's?

Your what?

DUDE! Be careful with that. You cant just launch B-52s at people all willy-nilly. Someone could get hurt.

Whatever you do, just remember have them rolling to do something to the bad guys. That way a PC feels involved in and vested. If it's just passive that's no fun for them, and neither is you doing the rolling.

Very good point, i'll keep that in mind ?

And now I’m wanting to make stats for a rock lobster.
