Where to Start...

By RedDogReb, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

I was introduced to Armada for the first time last night at my local gaming club.

Two per side, me and a friend were Imperials and my son and another friend the Rebels.

Before going to a local store and shouting "Shut up and take my money", what should I be buying for the start of a half decent fleet?

I appreciate the starter box set will be a requirement but where to go from there?

My son has already decided to be Rebels, which pleases me, as the idea of flying Imperial Star Destroyers appeals greatly (I'm over 50 now and the opening scenes of Epsiode 4 made a big impression on me LOL). I used one last night and thoroughly enjoyed it!

Finally, wasn't sure where to post this and hope this is the most appropriate area. If not, can an admin please move it. Thanks.

PS - My forum name is reflective of the fact that I fly rebels in X-wing, but prefer Imperials for this. Go figure.

Well every expansion has something useful even if you don't intend on using the ship. What do you want your over all strategy to be that will help narrow what you want. For general information ISD pack gladiator pack, vsd pack and light cruisers pack will give you good ship to ship abilities

@chr335 simple answer to the question on strategy is I'm not sure!

What strategies are there?

I'll have a look at those packs you mentioned. Thanks.

Here’s the order I suggest:

1. Gladiator. Demolisher is The. Best. Title. Period.

2. Chimaera. Its everything the regular ISD is but better.

3. Light cruiser. Solid ship, good all around.

4. Gozantis. Probably should pick up two of them, as well as at least squads one, and maybe squads two. Rouges and villains is also helpful.

5. Quasar Carrier. Serves as a good support ship, and Sloane is one of my favorite admirals.

6. Raider. One of my favorite ships, although it’s tricky to fly.

7. Another ISD. Just for the ability to fly a dual cymoon list, and Vader is their best commander.

8. Victory class star destroyer. It is a horrible ship, but Motti is a solid admiral. Plus all its cards are really good.

9. Interdictor. With wave 7, it’s gotten better, but it’s not really an essential ship.

10. Corellian Conflict. It’s a lot of fun, gives you good squads, but requires you to have quite a few ships already.

This is of course only a suggestion, and some ships are best in pairs (Arquitens, for example). But feel free to get the ships on whatever order you feel best suits your playstyle.

@Mostly_Harmless_Species not sure I have a play style yet - Only played one learning game.

I flew the ISD with some ties, so not tried any other Imperial ship yet.

Many thanks for the list - That gives me a good start to prioritise things.

Until I get my own fleet ready, I can borrow those of other club members which is great. Lets me try them out to see if I like them.

Also don't skip on the squadrons

Crabbok does a lot of videos on YouTube for Armada. This is his what to buy first Imperial list that might help you out a bit:

Also this is my favorite Armada Blog:

They do a great job going in depth about the game, fleet building, and Individual ships.

@Fallenwolf15 thanks for the links. Really useful.
