The "side" effect of 2.0 templates

By wurms, in X-Wing

Moving through ships will officially be a whole lot easier with those side notches on the cardboard now. Just line them up and your done. I know some do this casually in 1.0 just to speed things up, but in a tournament its a no-no. Now however, we can do this and be precise.

My templates have not arrived yet, so here is a nice vassal pic ?

I hadnt realized this, but yes, its super useful

Thumbs up for choice of models in the image.

GUNBOAT.

Good point! I was never super comfortable with people doing this as it was pretty inaccurate in 1.0, but as you note with the tick marks in most cases I'd definitely be fine with this in 2.0 (as long as it's not a super-tight maneuver or something).

I used it quite a bit in 1.0—it’s usually more accurate than taking apart the whole playing field would be, with all that opportunity to bump things out of place. As long as both players are cool with it, it works fine.

But yeah, I look forward to having a bit more precision. It’ll really help speed up games I think.

Does this happen for all speeds? Thats really convenient if true.

Turns - yes

Banks - no

Straights - super no

Look at those stats. Gunboats got nerfed hard in 2e.

Actually straights should work too, if you increase the speed by 1. A 3 straight for example can be done as a 4 straight midlle line to middle line.

Just use a 5-straight, back-to-front.

For small-based ships.

Exactly. Use the 6-straight for Medium, and the 7-straight for Large.

Oh, so you're one of those "Epic ships don't count" types. I see how it is.
