Begin Attack Run - Y Wing article

By thespaceinvader, in X-Wing

Biggs, Evaan ,Low, Rex

See if all four can get in same squad. Rex gets 4 green dice and lows evade and biggs super DTF. Sure why not

The Y-Wing has a front-arc primary weapon. Vet Turret Gunner says "After you perform a primary attack...". So you shoot once with the primary, then get a second attack from the turret.

Probably a dumb question but I've not seen the answer yet: With Veteran Turret Gunner, if the mobile arc is facing forward can you shoot the same ship twice?

As I read it.. yes, you can. It would act like the old title.

Even though we got nothing new, this still makes me excited about Y-Wings again. HYPE

The fact that i misread Vet Gunner and it allows you to doubletap a ship i really hope the TIE/D effect on defenders is still around, even if its not a free option.

I love that the Y-Wing can now double tap OR fire elsewhere - makes it far more versatile than before. Hopefully the cost won't be extravagant. The barrel roll is definitely a nice touch as well - I've enjoyed barrel rolling 1E Y-Wings with Flight Assist Astro - it comes in very handy and opponents are taken by surprise by it (they're not used to Ys doing any kind of fancy flyin').

I mainly want to see Fenn, Low, and Rex costed into oblivion. To be fair, Fenn is worth well over 50 points with no upgrades. No idea how they were okay with pricing him at 40 (20) in 1e.

I see some crazy jank here...

Evaan

Kyle Kartan - moldy crow

Garven Dries - stealth device

Evaan uses focus as action, Kyle transfers a focus to Evaan at start of combat phase. Evaan bumps Garven and one other pilot's agility by 1. Garven passes focus back to Evaan to aid with defense or offence. Room for fourth ship, potentially Arvel as a solid blocker and really hard to hit annoyance if boosted up to agility 4.

There's no reason to expect the 2.0 rules to allow Evaan to trigger twice. "At the start of the Engagement Phase, you may spend 1 focus token to choose a friendly ship at range 0-1...."

Too bad Evaan cant take Scum Han. Red focus just as her ability goes off.

Kavil will be able to if he survives the transition to 2nd Ed.

Only new information in the article is Y-wing having gunner slot (the slot with all the extra attack cards). Veteran gunner is good, but you can also add Ezra, or gunner Han, Ezra sounds best currently, as stressing Y-wing is really easy. Also we got definition of proton bomb effect in 2.0.

Nope, we've known the Y Wing has gunner since very early on. I think maybe the unboxing? Definitely it was confirmed at UKGE.

i think literally all turrets have a gunner slot.

All cannon users better have something similar because otherwise were back to the original problem of "turrets are just superior in every way" - only now its not 360 attack but holy balls powerful abilities.

Cannons are already pretty bad, because they don't add extra arcs, and now the cannons don't do much in terms of damage either. These ships should do MORE damage, not less. Slapping extra weapons on, just for utility is not the flavor of these ships, and it is not very efficient in balance terms.

Y-wings, my favorite ship in all of SW! So versatile, so beautiful, so outdated by the time of its first appearance in ANH. Double tap is back and better than ever (and I assume much more expensive). This is a worthy ship for GUNBOAT to fly against.

still miss Pops and Tiree.

Does DTF mean something different in this context? <confused face>

In this case, having [Veteran Turret Gunner] allows you to perform a bonus attack, spreading your fire to a turret arc you have not yet used that round.

I'm still not one hundred percent convinced this guy lets you shoot again using a turret from an arc that you already used with a non-turret weapon.

Aaah, right. I thought maybe there'd been an erotic comic about Biggs or something.

So I have a less than serious question... why both Horton and Norra? :P

It's rather like having Jacen Solo and Kylo Ren in the same pack if you ask me.

Horton's still canon, he's still Gray Leader .

He's just not the pilot who flew a Y-Wing into the Death Star anymore, that's now Norra.

On the subject of Horton, his new ability is... interesting.

Obviously they had to change it from his old 1e version. That ability was always obviously meant to help him out with ordnance shots that needed to spend a target lock, and the change to how ordnance is fired in 2e makes that totally pointless.

But I kinda feel like range 1 is basically the last place a Y-Wing wants to be. Maybe I'm still thinking too much in 1e terms; they're obviously not going to be TLT carriers anymore. What's interesting is that them being at range 1 does make some sense if they're being used as bombers. Given the new generic pilot names, it almost seems like FFG are making Gray Squadron the bomber Y-Wings (Gray generic is now the lower initiative, Gray Leader gets a boost if his wingmen are in good bombing position) and Gold Squadron the torpedo launchers (good target lock interaction).

I still feel like Horton has at once finally gained his EPT, but lost a lot of value in terms of pilot ability. As with all such things, it will be his new cost that will ultimately determine if he's worth taking.

So do you think we'll ever get a new Scum y-wing? they're not redoing Most wanted, or will the only way to get a Scum Y-wing be the conversion pack + a Rebel Y?

That's a point. Given what they said about being able to just collect one faction now I suspect we'll see a Y-Wing pack that contains cards for both factions.

I'd guess a separate scum, repainted y-wing expansion. same with the z-95.
