It's a trainer model or something.

The defectors were clearly in a TIE Shuttle.

Therin lies the crux of the matter. Does the basic TIE bomber have a gunner station? If we extrapolate that the TIE striker, has a bombardier station, then logically, a dedicated bomber would as well.

We also saw a TIE bomber with lots of room in the Rebels episode with Cham Syndulla.

The idea that a TIE bomber only has one occupant stems from the same legends fiction that says TIEs are really small inside and lack life support - things that have been proven incorrect fron looking at actual design models (TIEs look cramped based on the angles the interiors were filmed) and Rebels and Even the Force Awakens show that the basic and variant TIEs are roomy and do indeed have life support.

I'm very excited about the Gunner upgrades. (At least the ones that don't rhyme with juke pie stalker.)

The crew slot on the TIE Phantom was dumb. The fact that bombers could not equip bombardiers was ridiculous. Gunner slot is a great idea.

Wookieepedia (not the greatest source I know, but they're real anal about this stuff) oddly enough cites the same episode (the one with Cham) as the bomber only having one crew position, and also possibly being configured for passengers. Personally from watching rebels, I got the impression TIE/sh would not so much be a different model, just they move the ordinance stuff around to leave room for people. We've seen bombers used by imperials in the show and they don't seem like they have co-pilots or bombardiers. That all said, I take Rebels with a grain of salt on any technical details, they have modelling limitations. ISDs are supposed to still a bevy of different weapons, but in show, we only ever really see them shoot with the big barbette turbolasers (or just from random shiny spots on the hull) because I'm pretty sure the only thing they had the time and money to rig was the big guns.

Really, with the TIE Reaper, the TIE shuttle has very little place.

Especially with we have never officially seen it in canon. The nearest we get is Needa requesting his shuttle and us seeing a TIE bomber fly out, which could be a councidence.

The Reaper does everything a TIE shuttle can do, plus a little more.

ertainly not a TIE Bomber

No, what that is, is a very low res image that we can't make out.

But if that is another chassis entirely, that puts another nail in the coffin of the TIE shuttle - at least being a bomber upgrade.

We can make it out fairly easily.

It's a TIE Bomber hull with the wings swept outwards. Even the wing pylons are outwards.
