Has anybody tried a new upgrade or ship or squadron recently and found that they really enjoy it?

I recently built an ISD II centered list with Boarding Vader on the ISD and I am loving having a Dark Lord of the Sith to run in and chop up obnoxioius gamblers and computer geeks. I've also been running Gamma squadron in almost every list as a cheap source of lots of hull, that doesn't have heavy and can ocassionly blast a ship late game.

Any other folks out there find something they haven't played before that they're enjoying?

Tried Ruthless Strategists again last evening with TIE Advanced and was pleasantly surprised at how well that worked. Definitely needs some tinkering because the fleet overall was meh, but the Ruthless Strategists part of it worked fine. The trick is finding a build where you can profitably use them and not mind giving up the weapon team slot.

Giving up the weapon team slot on an ISD-II for Vader sounds kind of painful, though. I've seen him used pretty well on Kuats.

Tried exidus fleet. Underwhelming. It is useless on the second ship. First ship gets focused, gets to use it once, explodes, second ship now has a useless title.

Tried to fix it using riekan. Then vader boards and removes exodus. Both ships effectively got boarded.

Maybe if I master keeping the right distance and a cloud of bombers between the exodus ships and enemy fleet. Could deal with demo or an exrax raider by repairing, while keeping distance to isds.

Jonus. I knew he has potential, but you know, tie bombers. It was teamed up with a Glad2 Demo and VSD1 Warlord. Might be too expensive, but worked really well together, fixing red die for VSD, and Demo one-shotting flots with high chance.

Honestly, my earlier disdain for Ketsu Onyo has been completely misplaced. After playing against a few Sato lists with her in it, I'm convinced she might be one of the best squadrons in the game.

....care to explain?

More than two ships?

The problem with that is the cheapest one is like 70 points and your gonna want one of the MC-30 titles if your bringing MC-30s at all.

Tried phantoms running with an IG-assassin ball. They still aren’t super crazy, but when paired with an advanced or a few ties, they can really hang up a bomber wing with cloak.

Dodonna's pride, SW7 flanker. 50 pts of annoying flanker

I still keep meaning to give Phantoms the old college try with Sloane. But I have a hard time leaving Moffy J.

Also, saying it now. Konstantine and Gauntlet Fighters. It's a thing. I'm gonna make it a thing.

I think so long as you make Konstantine a thing, that's enough.

It's actually the conjunction of the two that makes it work. where is that list....

As someone who has played Konstantine the more times than anyone else in wave 6, good luck.

Honestly I have a really hard time recommending them outside of Sloane. They have an average (not Sloane) anti ship damage of 1, but if your dice are cold with them, they're really cold and having some way to get a reroll or use the occasional accuracy result can come in very handy. Main issue there is that they love being paired with some kind of Escort to keep that 4 hull intact and Sloane is meh on TIE Advanced for the most part, especially fielded in multiples.

Thank's for this topic :)

Bring us back to what this forum was made for :)

Or this could happen :

Now that all the serious business of Euros is out the way I've been experimenting a little, and had great fun running a new list last week. There was a lot in there I just don't think I've ever managed to get onto the board yet (Thrawn, 7th Fleet, Jonus) and some old favourites I've not used in a while (Rhymer, VSDs), plus it was an excuse to run my Sith Empire Shapeways stuff as well. Turned out surprisingly fun, a good challenge to try and get my head around what can make VSDs work, and something very different from my Ackbar MC80s or Sloane TIE swarms I've been using the past few months.

I'm still quite dissapointed that TIE Advanced are our only access to Escort. It would be really nice to have a good alternative that's either faster and a bit flimsier, or slower and a bit more sturdy, I think Phantoms especially would appreciate the later opption.

Especially with the Rebellion having access to a hull-7 Escort that isn't too shabby on doing what it's supposed to do.

I've decided to put experience where sentiment lies, and I'll be trying to run VSDs in various configurations to prove that they are still in the dire need of help I think they are. The verdict so far? they're too slow to contribute to the battle. Only one round of D-Caps damaging small ships has been their biggest contribution. Sloane-powered fighters out of a Quasar did so much more out of that match. In the match previous, they could not chase a pair of MC75s, and I blew the Dcaps on a border-hugging flotilla because it literally had no other target to shoot at the entire game.

Make a thread! I'm interested to see how that goes.

Not to say that Vic's don't need help (as I can see they need something, but I feel we've gotten a lot of that so far), and not to demean your accomplishments, but isn't this the equivalent of me saying "Cracken stinks, let me run him to prove he's bad."?

If you're already pre-inclined to hate the thing, why are you forcing yourself to play it? And (again, not to demean you) what's ensuring that you're running it WELL?

I can't believe I'm saying this, but Sato. Wave 6 and 7 gave him the ships he needed and the flotilla nerf lets him ignore the Flotillas he's not particularly good at killing. Shameless blog plug here featuring my Sato attempt:

Two reasons.

One, I actually really want to love the VSD. it's a modest star destroyer that's supposed to be less expensive and fit into any list type you desire. It's the empire standard ship emphasizing thier high-hull, high-battery playstyle of thier best ships, right? I've regretted it every time I've run it, but I'll concede that maybe there's a combo I haven't tried yet. I give up on the VSDs chances even before getting it to the table, and maybe that's premature.

It's not that I hate the VSD. My criticism is fueled by dissapointment that it isn't a better unit, and FFG's underwhelming offers to fix it.

The second is because VSD suffering is not a universally accepted constant in this forum. For all the critiquing I do, there is always someone there to claim the VSD isn't that bad off. Well... with a thread charting the performance of my VSD adventures, now there's documented evidence of why the VSD needs help. Something that can't just be blown off. And something to reflect on to discover the best ways to use it.
