Can FFG win the trust and excitement of the Armada community back?

What is it with Europe whining about football and baseball and not understanding that its about US cities competing amongst each other and not the rest of the world. Enjoy your soccer we're fine over here without it.

we dont whine, even if its hard to understand that US is not in the center of everything. We actually couldnt care less, and certainly no one here is hurting that US cities dont want to compete with European cities.

Two waves, delivered in a timely manner (4-7 months apart) would restore my confidence that FFG plans to continue Armada. Since that’s all I ask of them, my goodwill would also be restored.

At this point they really need a pay off for "something Big," and another wave on top of it is due. Starter packs or campaigns wouldn't be unwelcome, but any 2 out of those options would go a long long way towards rejuvinating their reputation.

I understand that we are not the center of everything (heck not even most things), but one thing to those who say it is only played in America even though we are not the largest nation (quick search says 3rd in size and population) in the world we are a large one. In the past I have driven more or less in a straight line over 3000 miles (about 4800km) and did not leave the nation. When I go to visit my best friend it take me about four hours and I do not leave the state that I live in. So yes it may be only (or mostly) a US game but it is still played and enjoyed by lots. As for competing with European cities I have now power over any sport but I would be willing to let them in the club. As for the other sports that have been mentioned so far I think the (one of?) main reason that most Americans do not follow them is we do not understand the game, and/or it is felt to be slow. By slow I mean scoring, when I was overseas I tried watching Soccer/football but with out know the details of the rules and all that, what I saw was lots of people running up and down the field over and over, with a few very blatant actors, and mocking them was the best part of the game. Cricket I just had no idea what was going from the word get go, but thought it was better than baseball (not that that is saying much as I would rather watch paint dry than baseball), again I did not understand what was going on so I did not understand the enjoyment of the game, and at least where I was there was no one who could explain the game to me either in the case of Soccer they could not get out of the fine detail to get down to the basics, and cricket they could not speak English well, and my Indian was even worse. Now just so you do not think I am picking on those funny games played in Europe there are lots of other games played in the US that are in the same standing only those who follow it and understand it watch it. But with a bit of knowledge I can see this changing take Curling as an example it was not that long ago that for most part it was unheard of in the US, now it is not a prime time sport but most people I know, know about it and have some interest in learning more about it and watching it.

good luck.

Soccer is indeed slow scoring and many games 0:0. Cant watch it myself.

I remember when monsterpocalypse was silently discontinued alegedly because they signed off movie rights. At least that cant happen!

MonPoc is coming back you know. Apparently whatever was preventing them from even discussing it has expired and they are rebooting it.

Could never get into soccer because it’s slow and half the time it seems like luck the back goes in than skill.

I wont say I wont buy a SSD if its released, but on that same note, I do feel pretty insulted as a consumer being told one thing, and then a company doing another, that said, This is minor compared to the companies that have earned the "Blacklist from my wallet". And Its been many years since I've put a company there, and thankfully, I have had the willpower to keep them there, granted, when they keep justifying my decision over and over again, it really isn't that hard to do.

And here we are. Nerd people talking about soccer, fake-football ? and other sports.

DO YOU SEE WHAT YOU DID FFG?

For those confused by cricket, here is a basic explanation

You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out. When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side thats been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out. Sometimes you get men still in and not out.

When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in. There are two men called umpires who stay all out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out. When both sides have been in and all the men have been out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game!

The entire world is playing soccer. Far more people are interested in it than they are in American Football. That said I also follow the regular season and am enjoying American Football greatly. I watched games and learned the rules fron the commentators. I dont understand much of the tactical decisions why certain plays are chosen at certain times, but I enjoy the intricacies .

Preach! Yesterday Iran beat Marocco 1:0 because Marocco accidentally put the ball in their own goal. I watch about 1 game a year when somebody drags me there and I live in germany.

It's funny, I expected to have to make some hard decisions this year. Trying to be smart with my money with a kid on the way and less overtime due to work getting smart about staffing...

Between how busy I am, and no new products being released, I'm pretty content to just buy Legion to paint/collect and not really bother with buying into xw2.0 or non existent Armada products. I haven't even done much painting recently either. ::womp womp::

I do miss the game, but I haven't touched it in months. I'm hoping to squeeze in a SC or two to try to jumpstart my interest. Or confirm that I should just put the game away to really collect some dust. ?

This is the best game ever, so even if we don't get alot of attention from FFG, at least all what I have cannot be lost (I own both faction). So even if the game is no longer supported, I will be able to play with my friends.

But one thing is sure, I preffered the continuity of this game and the support from FFG because there is a couple of other ship and squadron that i'm missing (SSD, Bulwark Mk3, Dauntless, Lancer frigate, U-Wing, etc...)

Nope.

Nothing to be done.

My faith in FFG's support for armada is forever trashed.

American Football IS a farce. And more people are growing to realize it, as while soccer "can" give you concussions and CTE, it's nowhere near as definite as sustained Football play.

It's not the chance of CTE, it's the near inevitability of join damage, ligament and tendor damage, back injuries, and more. Too many players end up with unavoidable long-term pain.the Los Angeles Times published an article years ago by a player who recounted playing with constant pain during the season and the team doctors handing out painkillers like candy--or worse. Probably violating ethics and FDA dosage limits.

Concussion and CTE in soccer is grossly overrated. At least it's better than when the leather balls soaked up water in wet weather (is there any other kind in England?) and the sheer weight did terrible damage. Soccer could vastly cut back on brain damage by banning heading, but the fans would hate that. I'd be willing to see use of the fist above the top of the head to punch the ball from below, but I'm not the fan base that FIFA cares about.

I do think that American football could make significant equipment changes, and some rules changes, to make players subject to less chance of permanent injury. How to address the ridiculous growth in the weight of the average player, I'm not sure about. Straight up limits by position seem weird and possibly untenable. Maybe a maximum weight per position, and if you're above it, you have to wear additional weight equal to one or two times how much you exceed the limit? Put half of it around the abdomen and half in ankle weights. Sort of a backwards version of what they do with jockeys.

Everyone needs to be careful with this thread!

All this talk about football is going to make FFG think they will need to make some sort of football-based game.

Of course, it will have to use the Star Wars IP. And they'll call it something like Super Bombad XI.

And of course, the base game will only include enough for each squad to field 5 players - meaning you'll have to buy 3 just to be able to do Organized Play.

And of course, miniatures will look awfully similar to Legion ... but they'll be 1 mm bigger so you can't officially use the Legion minis.

And of course, there will be tons of expansions. Of which the "worst" players will include the best ability cards ... for the other side!

And of course, that's all we'll ever hear about for 2 years.

And of course, somehow, someway, squadrons will still find a way to be overpowered.

You can see where I am going with this: you can kiss any press on Armada good-bye!

?

PS - nice draw, Iceland!

What do you all think?

Any good will that FFG had built up with the Armada players seems long dead and buried. Even if you got whatever your wish is for the game: new waves, campaign box, Super Star Destroyer, new faction etc., would it hype you enough to get over the neglect, lack of news and overall awful PR dumpster-fire that is FFG's Star Wars Armada?

What would they have to do at this point to win you back over, to reinvigorate the community?

I am excited about the game and I trust FFG, so I don't quite see where this is going.

"Something big is coming"

"hyperspace report"

"Just get in the van, I have candy and a puppy".

I have no idea how you could trust them after all of that.

Well, when you put it that way I'm not sure if it's a sport or the script for an adult movie. ;)

As for the state of Armada, I'm sure we've got stuff coming. Seems FFG shuffled around a lot of other prints around to fit in their rapid expansion with Legion and X-Wing 2nd products and both Armada and Imperial Assault were heavily delayed. This, btw, is even more apparant with IA, where we have already gotten alternate art cards from the Europeans from products that are not even in stores yet (or in the near future).

And all this wasn't helped with their whole misnomed disaster of a Hypedspace Report that tintilated all the different communites as a general SW announcement.

Nevertheless, I am sure we've got more stuff coming eventually; and in the meantime, while FFG fumbling around with their production capacity, it's great to see that the Armada scene around here is more vibrant than it has ever been.

Yeah the scene around me seems to be picking up as well. There were already more stores than ever hosting Store Championships and another store that just did a Demo is seeing if they can get a SC kit and if not they are going to get Quarterlies.

Many stores are struggling with Legion OP and X-Wing is a bit of an unknown at the moment with 2.0 from the store owner perspective, at least with the stores I have talked to.

That said, during the demo we had 2 full games also going the whole time and we had a steady stream of folks asking what is this? Or saying, I didn't know this was a game! That isn't all FFG's fault, it is also a lack of stores wanting to take on "another" space based Star Wars game. I think stores need to be educated on Armada and what makes it different then X-wing, I think we can do that if stores are willing to listen. Many won't listen but the few that do, and don't currently support Armada, will still strengthen the game.

I think that is really what just bring the community to this level of gloominess. Since I start to play this game (at the lunch of the second wave) and join this community, I just saw that we where not the priority of FFG by their lack of exposure on the site.

Did I care? Not really because you (members of the forum and some blogers) where there to entertain my Armada needs.

Before the Hyperspace Report flop, all those "Armada is dead" where there to amuse the crowd and get remembrance of our beloved Admiral Neilson. But the Aftermath of the Hyperspace Report just light the powder for all those with high expectation (that something "big").

Now we are living the same as a bereavement (hoping it's the good word for what I mean). After the death off someone close to you, there are some stage that you will cross :

1. Denial 2. Anger (where alot of people are at this moment) 3. The minding that we can change thing 4. Sadness and 5. Acceptation.

For me, I'm at stage 5, I already accept the fact that we are not the priority for FFG but this don't mean that our game is dead. It only mean that, as before the Hyperspace Report, we have to take care of ouserlf between us, players.

Some of you will maybe remember last year, FFG post somthing telling us that they where sorry for the lack of coverage and their will to change that. Unfortunately, it did not last long. But at least, they know the situation and they try a little something. Is Legion shadowing Armada, maybe. But it's the same for Imperial Assault and at a even worse level because those two game are close from each other.

We have the greatest game that I ever played. We have a strong community. Don't let that deception bring you down and turn your back to something that can bring so much fun.

Armada will still alive as long as people will keep play this game. As @Cremate said, I'm pretty sure that more stuff are coming (looking at you SSD) and we only have to be patient (as we where before).

Play, have fun and Pew Pew Pew those big ship!
