A TIE Swarm to the end 1.0

By Ronu, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Have a final event or two and kinda wanting to go out with a bang. So I present a TIE swarm to go down swinging with.

2x Sigma Squadron Pilot Intelligence Agent and Collision Detector

4x Academy TIEs

The problem there is that generic Sigmas are very fragile without at least stygium particle accelerator. Intelligence Agent should give you the chance to provide blocking with the academy pilots, though.

I've been considering a couple of "TIE swarm plus heavier support ship" lists (not aces, but heavier TIE variants):

  • TIE Bomber Support - because few things are as scary as being ionized in front of a massed, target-locked TIE swarm
    • Scimitar Squadron Pilot x 2
      • XX-23 S-Thread Tracers
      • Ion Pulse Missiles
      • Guidance Chips
    • Academy Pilot x 5
  • TIE Defender Support - because the 7th ship in a 7-ship swarm being an all-up TIE Defender is rather scary....
    • Delta Squadron Pilot
      • TIE/x7
    • Academy Pilot x 6
  • TIE Advanced Support - because cruise missiles are fun
    • Sienar Test Pilot
      • TIE/v1
      • Cruise Missiles
      • Guidance Chips
    • Academy Pilot x 5

I won a game against Poe, Jake and Fenn with this swarm:

Scimitar Squadron Pilot x 2

- Thread tracers, ion pulse missiles and guidance chips.

Academy Pilot x 3

Omicron Group Pilot

- Tractor beam, electronic baffle, intelligence agent and courier droid.

Blocking an ionised Poe and then using tractor beam to throw him in front of a couple Tie Fighters with focus and target lock was quite satisfying.

I took a 7 tie swarm to Mandalore, went 2/2 in the main tournement, after going 3/3 the day before. 10 rounds of tie swarm in 2 days was enough for that event, but fun. Got half points off a Dash and was one round from winning that game on points.

I love the idea of X7 delta and then TIEs. Unexpected and offbalancing.

I recommend losing a tie, adding LWF and fcs to your sigmas and maybe upgrading one of your ties to a named tie or maybe a tie fo.

I know 5 ship is not a real swarm but I have fun with 5x tie/fo with crackshot and advanced optics.

Now I will try this :

2x Omega Squadron Pilot with Crackshot and Advanced Optics (40 pts)

Zeta Leader with Crackshot and Advanced Optics (23 pts)

Howlrunner with Crackshot and Hull Upgrade (22 pts)

Wampa (14 pts)

Total : 99/100

With one free point you have the choice : Remplace Wampa with a black pilot with crackshot, add a mkII for Zeta Leader or Shield Upgrade for Howlrunner ect..

Recommendation for Zeta Leader - whilst Advanced Optics is good, once you start flinging 3 dice you'll eat your focus pretty reliably.

He's a pretty nice 'big gun' for the squad against tough-but-not-high-agility targets where crack shot has limited effect.

Try him with Wired and Weapons Guidance - spend the focus to flip a blank, then reroll the focus - and have defensive rerolls afterwards too.

Definitely justifies TIE mkII in that build.

I agree with that ! This config was my first flight with Zeta Leader back to wave 8 and did good job (I always prefer Zeta Leader over Omega Leader).

My only complain about this config is a high PS Pilot can force me to spend my focus token for defense and make Weapons Guidance useless. Predator can be a nice solution for this case for the same cost but without the buff for the defence.

But we all know we can't be prepared for all the possibility... :P

My TIE swarm to the end is:

Howlrunner w/Crack Shot

Mauler w/Crack Shot

Scourge w/Crack Shot

Black Squadron x3 w/Crack Shot

My area doesn't see much harpoon or trajectory simulator play, so the above list has proven to be pretty good.

Another one :

Zeta Leader (with adaptability) / Mauler Mithel (with adaptability) / Scourge (with adaptability) / Backstabber / Dark Curse / Wampa

Of course you need so much sacrifice for the Dice god but I least you will have some fun ! :P

This is my version of the Crack Swarm that I plan to run through store tournament season (prepping to swarm again in 2.0!). Not great in the meta but can bring some pain if you get in close early and get a good volley on a single target.

Howlrunner + Crachshot

x2 TIE/FO + Crackshot

x3 TIE Black Squadron Pilot + Crackshot
