[First Fleet Build] Tagge / Needa is my family

By Choomie, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hello, everyone. This is my first ever Imperial fleet, and it is a Frankenstein of some of my favorite concepts. I am very new to the game, I've only ever played it the three times so I am definitely looking for advice. I don't want to stray too far from this concept, but I am open to modifications. I am also looking for advice on how to run this (optimal starting position maybe, what assault, defense, and navigation cards are recommended for this?)

Defense: ?
Navigation: ?

First off: welcome to the game! Be advised that Tagge is widely considered to be the worst commander in the game; I’m not saying “don’t run him ever,” but think carefully about whether this is the rabbit hole you want to go down as a new player. That said, you asked for feedback on this fleet. The most pressing concern is this: what do you plan to do when they come at you with an ISD (or two?) Your combat force consists of a pair of Arquitens. The fighter complement will put up a solid fight against a carrier fleet, but isn’t threatening against someone who doesn’t bring a real squad investment. I would drop the fighters to a 6-TIE screen, drop the luxury goods (Suppressor, Phylon Q7s,) drop the Quasar and get a warship. Probably a VSD, but squeezing in an ISD would serve you well. If you have 2 more Arquitens, they would be great instead. How did you get any? There’s a shortage. Objective wise, Most Wanted is a clear frontrunner for red. Yellow is trickier; Planetary Ion Cannon is a safe choice, Fire Lanes is riskier but has synergy with Arqs. For blue, Solar Corona is probably your best bet. Hope this helps, good luck!

Thank you very much for the feedback! I went ahead and made some changes as reflected below:

Defense: Planetary Ion Cannon
Navigation: Solar Corona

Victory II (85)
• Darth Vader (36)
• Wulff Yularen (7)
• Disposable Capacitors (3)
• Enhanced Armament (10)
• Leading Shots (4)
• Dominator (12)
= 157 Points

Arquitens Light Cruiser (54)
• Captain Needa (2)
• Electronic Countermeasures (7)
• Turbolaser Reroute Circuits (7)
= 70 Points

Arquitens Light Cruiser (54)
• Intel Officer (7)
• Electronic Countermeasures (7)
• Turbolaser Reroute Circuits (7)
= 75 Points

Gozanti Cruisers (23)
• Hondo Ohnaka (2)
• Comms Net (2)
= 27 Points

Gozanti Cruisers (23)
• Slicer Tools (7)
= 30 Points

Squadrons:
• 5 x TIE Fighter Squadron (40)
= 40 Points

Total Points: 399

I like Vader as a general commander, and I think he is simple but effective at keeping the offense up. I have him aboard the VSD, which serves as my tanky battleship. I am hoping that the gozanti comms net will be of use to pump up the shields of the Dominator.

As a second idea, I might try Tarkin instead if Vader but I will have to move some stuff around.

@Choomie

swap Enhanced Armaments for Quad Battery Turrets and drop Dominator to add Valen Rudor to your screen. Also forget Electronic counter measures on the cruisers. Swap Wulff on the VSD for Minister Tua on the VSD and add Electronic Countermeasures on it.

I wont disagree, Im still really new myself, but could you give a summary of why you would make those changes?

VSDs are slow which gives the ship ample opportunity to utilize Quad Battery Turrets. Plus it with all arcs.

Minister Tua gives a ship a defensive retrofit so slapping Electronic Counter measures (ECMs) let's you use the brace when fighting against ships with large dice pools without taking too much damage.

ECMs aren't too great with Arquitens as they have a redundant redirect and you are using the evade for TRCs.

Valen Rudor is just great and shooting genrics squadrons along with being cheap.

Dominator is expensive and limited to medium range along with costing shields. While great for burst damage, you will have to be spamming engineering the whole time. I personally prefer my VSDs spamming navigation, but that is a personal opinion.

Tagge is the one thing that justified the ECMs on the Arqs; now they no longer really prevent damage, because accuracies are better as damage vs Arqs. For instance, if your opponent uses 2 accuracies to lock your redirects, he sacrificed 2 dice. If he’d rerolled those dice into damage (and he will if you have ECM,) you would’ve redirected, but without ECM you get to keep your side shields. The one exception is if you burn your evade on a double hit at long range, and that only saves one damage. With ECM gone, there’s also room for an easy upgrade to an ISD.
