Will we see new play mats?

By BlueFalcon4, in X-Wing

I was hoping with the upcoming releases of the TIE Reaper and X-Wiing 2.0 that we would see some new play mats coming out.

Specifically Scarif. I think an argument could be made that it was one of the top three best space battles for SW to date.

For other possibilities, maybe Coruscant or even the maelstrom form Solo.

The group that I play with like changing the location of our skirmishes from Yavin to Bespin to. etc.

Thoughts?

Fixed that for you

New Maps? Yes, most likely they still sell and it doesn't look like FFG is in any danger of Disney pulling the licenses.

Scarif is possibly the most likely candidate for a new map given all the features with it and its inclusion of Armada ships.

Coroscuant, only if the Clone Wars faction come into play from either Armada or X-wing.

Malestorm? Just get a PVC pipe and play a game in that. Seriously I would perfer the Maw from Empire at War Forces of Corruption. A much better Scum & Villainy story.

I think it would be great to actually get legal playmats. You know, some that are actually square.

Technically, to be legal, playmats only need to be 3' x 3' as per the X-Wing Tournament Regulations (p.6). The regulations do not define "square".

Now I want to try a game on a rhomboid playmat.

A map with the shield hole over Scarif sounds fantastic.

Two maps that are the two halves of the Supremacy (with the indication that you're a good bit away from it so it makes sense for it to all be there) sounds neat, with their being an option for promo versions depicting the broken Supremacy. The scale would be weird, though, I guess.

Herowannabe: I personally agree, but I don't want to offend anyone sensitive to the needs of Buzz Droids.

A circle might be interesting, too.

Always interesting and likely, though I will probably not spend any money on them. I have my standard starfield and my system open one. I don’t need more

If you marked out 1/4 arcs to define starting areas, and treated each of the four quadrants as "sides" for abilities that reference them such as Moralo Eval, it could be doable. A circle of approximately 40 5/8" diameter would have roughly the same surface area as a 36" square mat.

Yeah, but it wouldn't be 3' x 3' and thus it would be illegal!

Well, I mean, I guess there are infinite 3' chords ...
