Need to learn to wait 3 Seconds.... ever happened to you?

By LeBlanc13, in Dark Heresy

I seem to keep jumping the gun and talking every time my GM makes a dramatic pause in descriptions. He seems finished to me, so I ask a question and get told "Let me finish the description and....."

Darn it, did it again.

I guess I should wait and count to three in my head before saying anything. I'm just not used to GM's using the dramatic pause as frequently as he does.

It's totally cool that he does that... this is really just me needing to learn his style and stop coming across as rude. I really hope that's not the case, but the comments lead me to believe I've ruined his dramatic moments a couple of times.

Has anyone else had similar experiences? or just some advice that might help in addition to what I've come up with.

Heh, are you sure its a Dramatic pause?

I often stop in the middle of a description, but its most often to gather my scattered thoughts... too much time focusing on the future and endless possibilities

I'm giving my GM the benefit of the doubt here. I'm assuming he's putting on a show and I'm detracting from it.

@Bombernoy. I'm not sure that's the route I'd want to take, but thanks for the thought.

This has happened to me on many occasions, as a GM. And, I'm sure I've been guilty of it a few times myself as a player. gui%C3%B1o.gif

And in the case of my players interrupting me, sometimes it is meant to be a dramatic pause, but just as often it is, as Raith said, me gathering my wandering thoughts.

Don't really know that there is a good answer for everyone. The "3 second rule" might be good for some. But I think my players all have ADHD, so that's probably not an option.

When I'm DM'ing, if it is meant to be dramatic, I just stop until they are done, then start again from the beginning of the description. Rinse, and if necessary, repeat.

If it is just me failing to have my thoughts in order, I pretend it was supposed to be dramatic, so as to avoid any jokes about my advancing age and failing memory and ability to focus. lengua.gif

Nice Sister Cat!

There definitely appears to be a little annoyance on his part so it makes me wonder if I've persistently done this and I'm just now noticing it. Or perhaps my GM just gets annoyed easily. Another player in the group has pointed it out to me recently so it definitely seems to be an issue I should work on.

Thanks for being a sounding wall everyone.

Well then, it sounds to me like you should just talk to your GM about it. And if it turns out to be a real problem/annoyance for him/her, then just keep that in the back of your mind while you're gaming, and make an effort to remember to give him a moment to finish. Simple. gui%C3%B1o.gif Again, though, JMHO.

I agree with Sister Cat, if it seems like it's annoying the GM, talk to them. let them know that you're not doing it to be rude. a little 3 minute conversation could save a lot of worrying and problems.

I will do that.
