2.0 Target Lock Token Confusion

Lucky my acrylic locks are aurebesh, double luck the "Heroes" of the resistance expansion had the aurebesh cardboard tokens. So mine are still linkable.

Seriously???!!!! I also run acrylic Aurebesh locks - I have never noticed the aurebesh tokens in "Heroes"! The sprues just ended up mixed into the ever-growing massive pile in the basement. Thanks - I'll have to check it out!

Just use the old locks. I’m sure many will still use their acrylics. ****, there’s a guy that’s been putting the blue TL token on his base since day one. It’s the same idea.

Exactly - local guys that use the cardboard ones already leave the blue lock on the ship. And I can't imagine acrylic guys are going to ditch what they won/own. Its not like the 1.0 way was functionally different.

Now, this 2.0 green/red/orange/yellow token change might cause confusion with someone using old acrylics to a newer player, but shouldn't be a game stopper.

A guy in may league always runs 3 ship lists and always uses the locks lettered W, A, R. He's been absolutely inconsolable since the new locks were shown.

I got a big kick out of the QQ lock.

at the moment i use them with coloured sleeves when running ships that are same; so orange, purple and blue sleeves. (then match the red and blue looks in regard to sleeves)............and the coloured bases.................because i have problems. (My gunboats also have making blue, purple and orange markings)

Technically they're tokens for the included mission, not target locks. But they work just fine.

The key thing is; as long as you're using a token which is clearly 'paired' with the ID token attached to your ship, no-one is really going to care what it actually is . Heck, every set of ship ID tokens comes in threes - one for the front slot, one for the back slot and one for the pilot card. Just use one in the front (or back) and use the other as your new 'target lock' indicator.

It's even less important than 3rd party range rulers and manoeuvre templates, because it's not like the size matters.

The main thing is that in a world where most people's squads are 2-3 different ships all with unique pilots, very few people outside those on the Swarmy end of life bother with ship ID tokens anymore (It's surprisingly rare I see anyone else using 'critical damage' tokens and I swear I'm the only person in the world who makes a point of using the initiative token*). For those that do, it's going to (a) make sense and (b) reduce the amount of tokens you need to field.

Of course, virtually no ships I ever use have the ability to target lock (aside from the TIE/fo), so what do I know?

* I always wondered if there should be upgrade(s) which forced it to change hands and/or gave bonuses depending on who had it.

We put the blue TL in the ship base slot and have the red one on the pilot card.

When a TL is aquired, just move the red TL to the ship being locked.

I will continue to use this system in v2 as I don't like their solution for the new TLs.

The problem with this system is that, if you’re running generics that can target lock, you end up with all your ship ID’s on the board and none on the cards.

Had a player in a store championship liberally spread the damage I was doing to his 5 y-wings around because none of his cards were marked.

I have a suspicion it was just because FFG LOVES putting as many cardboard punch tokens on a punch board as they possibly can. If they had combined the numbers and locks to begin with, that would have been a 50% token reduction on the TL side of things ?

But now in 2.0 there are so many new tokens to fill the void, (force powers, charge mechanics, jam, reinforce, calculate, etc.) they can rest easy knowing each printable inch of punch board will be maxed out and the X-wing hoarder in many of us will have even more boxes of extra punch outs to consume our living spaces!

What's odd is the new X-Wing pack for 2.0 doesn't have Stress or Focus tokens. It has charges, Ions and a target lock (#7), but none of the basic stuff. I'm guessing that'll just be in the core or something.

I'm working on a way to still use my Curled Paw Aurebesh locks in 2nd Edition. Trying to print up little icons to glue on the ID marker.

I have a few aurebesh cardboard mini tokens from a mission- used em on my IG-2000's to ID each. I glued one to an upgrade dial so I need a few more.

Maybe C.P. will make acrylic ship markers with matching locks in Aurebesh.... I'd buy a set.

I have some aurebesh marked tokens from the stele open. I'll need to bust out the HOTR cardboard to see if the aurebesh letters are the same. If so, score! My other acrylic locks (the at-at foot from the Walker Classic) will prob need to be archived with the rest of my 1st edition stuff. Sad Panda........

The cannons look fun, but what are you going to do with the rest of them?

never had this problem.

I see your point though.

I would add a number to the back slot of the base to distinguish generics apart.

I like the look of the old target lock and will continue to use it.

The "new" system does reduce cardboard but lacks elegance.

Besides both sides using the same number adds confusion to the game.( Hope the TL doesn't get accidentally flipped when being moved .)

The other facet of this is that we don’t know if 1.0 target locks will be usable.

Common sense says they should be, but we don’t have any tournament rules on hand to go by
