People start above 5 feet.

Even the prequels did not manage that.
You mean because some people actually like the sequels and nobody liked the prequels? That’s hardly an argument in the prequels’ favour!

Actually it took time for prequel hate to settle in some liked phantom and were looking forward to clone wars, it wasn't until that 2nd movie peeps went pesimistic, no one went to revenge expecting a satisfactory end.
The sequels from the outset have had detractors I thought Tfa was okay for a remake but we had quite a few hate it on these forums, rouge one was the same it's not universally liked by any means, tlj is widely hated to the extent it put people off from seeing solo.
By comparison the EU is still fondly thought of, sure it had it's bad parts but it didn't turn solo into a dead beat dad or make luke a bitter hermit, it didn't make the rebellion pointless.

Actually I'm part of a large gaming and Star Wars fan group that has been watching Star Wars movies in the theater since Phantom Menace. We loved the prequels growing up and the Clone Wars show and even Rebels wasn't too bad.
But the destroying of the EU combined with the sequels has really taken the wind out of our enjoyment. More than half of the group didn't even come to Solo because The Last Jedi in their words "sucked and didn't feel like Star Wars." I thought TLJ was alright and enjoyed Solo much more but absolutely loved the Prequels. And it's sad seeing so many friends and family of mine walk away from the sequels for various reasons and ending the Star Wars traditions and fun we've had since the beginning. Death of luke, random space casinos, creeping in of the SJW movement, no epic villains you can take seriously (Solo's Dryden Vos or Director Krennic were incredible examples of a proper new villain you could take seriously where Hux, Phasma, Kylo and Snoke were well... half are dead, one went from epic Commander to cartoon character punching bag and it's left to kylo to step up and be any sort of threat.
I do think there's definitely a lot of the reaction related too destroying the EU which many of us loved. If you never read the Legacy/KOTOR comic books, took the time to read Thrawn/NJO/Legacy/fate of the jedi books, played the awesome Force Unleashed/Jedi Knight/KOTOR video games then you may not feel like we do but man it sucks to have a massive universe that you grew up with and explored in different mediums be snuffed out and destroyed and am honestly pale sub par replicant put in its place.
So yeah the sequels and more so Disney did what the prequels could not and destroyed the joy of Star Wars for enough of my friends and family that it's just me and a few others now that still even bother to go and see the latest release, which is actually really good.

On the other hand, prequels never inspired this level of hate into people who disliked them, at least as far as I know.
Also, given the box office results of Solo, it would seem there really aren't THAT many people who support which way the franchise is currently going.

So how did your friends handle George Lucas throwing the Thrawn Trilogy in the trash with Attack of the Clones?

I don't think they noticed like I did but there were many like that: Shakk Tii dying 3 different ways, Boba Fett and Han Solo's many contradicting tales or even the travesty that the Clone Wars did to the Karen Traviss Republic Commando series/Mandalorians.
But there is a difference between retconning one story and killing an entire EU off with one stroke. It burned out a lot of fans and personally I haven't bothered to get into the new comics or books since they also don't feel right and could again be ended at any time. Also the majority of the video games are just money-sucking freemium instead of high quality stories/fresh ideas. Board and tabletop games are one of the few aspects my group still enjoys which ties back to the original point of this thread. I don't mind the new movies and have generally liked all the Star Wars movies except the nightmare fuel of terrible-ness that is the Ewok movies.

Er, what?
I remember people making videos showing themselves lightsabering copies of Kevin J Anderson's Jedi Academy books.
There was the sheer amount of complaining about a small child yelling "yippee!"
Back in the days of Usenet (for those not old enough to remember it, it was kind of like an early version of reddit), there was a board called alt.fan.starwars.jarjarbinks.die.die.die
Before Attack of the Clones came out, there was "The Phantom Edit" where someone re-edited Episode I to remove Jar Jar Binks.
This is just a tiny, tiny sliver of examples of how people really did show the same levels of hate for earlier Star Wars works. I was able to come up with those examples off the top of my head, which means there were far more than that around at the time.
I mean, really - here's George Lucas in 2012, talking about the backlash he got over the Special Editions and Prequels:
"Why would I make any more, when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?"
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/film/film-news/9023370/George-Lucas-retires-from-making-blockbusters.html
That article came out 9 months before Lucasfilm was sold to Disney.
Yeah, there was a huge amount of Hate for the Prequels, considerably more than there is now for the Sequels.
I do think that the hate for the sequels seems more vicious (dumping on a 10 year old kid not withstanding)
No Imperial TIEs in the prequels. So...nothing for me.
Why can't we all just get along and hate on the Ewok movies? Hahaha

Fair enough
I was a teenager when the prequels came out so, not coming into contact with anything more than complaints and rants (certainly nothing to the levels of cyber bullying actors and 'let' s dedicate our lives to getting Kathleen Kennedy fired') I just assumed there wasn't anything more.

They are the finest thing ever made your just hate anything cute and fluffy!!!!!!
Seriously though I don't think anyone under 35 even knows they exist I've not seen them since I was a wee bairn.
And I don't remember them well enough to hate, I remember kids ewoks and something about a magic rock but that's about it.
There were ewok movies?! Are they available to stream?

Beware, what is seen cannot then be unseen.

Also you have to take into account that social media was not as developped as it is today. Facebook was not even created when the prequels came out.
They were hated... a lot. It’s just that some people want to forget to validate their point that Disney is the worst thing that happened to Star Wars.

But Wicket is so cute!!!! Wasn’t there a witch in those movies? I’m having a hard time remembering...
I remember that is a human family crashing on Endor and then getting captured? Except for the young girl that team up with the Ewoks to free her parents...?

Had them on vhs taped off tv as a kid. Don't know where to stream.

They're (arguably) better than the holiday special.

That's sad. Disney is probably the best thing to happen to Star Wars in a long time, for the very basic reason that they're putting out new content, and a franchise without new content slowly withers and dies. Yes, some of it (possibly a lot of it) is crap, some of it is full of personal agendas that IMO don't belong in Star Wars, but some of it is good. I highly doubt we would be seeing any new good Star Wars content right now if George Lucas was still owning it.

I would say that they were definetly better. It’s just that they were specifictly made for young child, so of course growing up it doesn’t take long to realise that they’re not good movies. But I remember enjoying them when I was young.

Well, they erased the EU to reboot the franchise... some fans never took it.
Disney is good to create a universe, just look what they’re doing with Marvel. But it takes time to do it. We are starting to see cross reference in their movies and no doubt that the end of Solo is setting the stage for something bigger. I personally really like it, and I can’t wait to find out what’s next.
