Runewars Vassal Tournament!

By tgall, in Runewars Miniatures Game

Ever want to play Runewars but there aren't many people in your area? Want to be involved in a Runewars tournament but well doesn't work time wise or whatever?

Well now you can!

Announcing the first ever Runewars Vassal tournament. Please respond to this thread to sign up.

How does it work? We'll be using vassal which is a java program that when loaded with a module that supports Runewars, allows you to play from the comfort of <your own location> playing whatever force you might want! Vassal runs on any OS (tho with OSX you do need to have a particular version of Java)

Install the vassal game engine first. Then with vassal started, choose Open Module from the File pull down menu, select the Runewars Module. It'll take a bit to load but will now show up in the main vassal window. (From now on you can just double click on the Runewars Module to start) Next select that you want to connect and start a new online game. You'll want to resize the window at this point, and then you'll see who is all around. I highly suggest using discard for audio and talking with the player you're playing against, makes for more fun and faster gameplay but it's not the end of the world. Both the Runecasters and InitiativeOne have discord servers.

Rules are the standard tournament rules. 200 points. We'll do 3 rounds.

We will kick off the first round July 1st. Once paired you'll have 2 weeks to complete your game. Please indicate the faction you'll use as well as the timezone you're in when you sign up. Be aware the Uthuk might not be 'available' by July 1st but I'll see what I can get done. Looking at you @Parakitor

Time for some fun and get in some games of Runewars!

Sign me up! I'm on Pacific Daylight Time (PDT; GMT-7). And, of course, I'll be hoisting the banners of Waiqar's Undying Legions.

(I just realized I still need to paint Ravos ☹️ . I'll have 4 different Berserker models, a Spined Thresher, and the two Flesh Ripper models ready for photos by the end of the week.)

O and I should mention that yes I am actually going to pull together some prizes for this, like real, stuff to be sent in to you in the mail type stuff. I just gotta go through what i have laying around ...

For me I plan to play... I'll go Daqan unless I'm able to get my Uthuk babies actually done and playable by July 1st. I'm USA Central GMT-5.

@Parakitor - actually that totally works as my Ravos is painted so between the two of us we should be able to make it work

I would love to play! I'll need to wait for you to drop your instructions though.

I intend to play Waiqar, this would be a great way for me to practice before Regionals/Nationals.

That's all depending if anyone can accommodate my BST timezone ?

I'll be happy to join in, if we can manage with my timezone (Central European Daylight Time, GMT+2). I would be playing Waiqar.

I would like join. (Central European Daylight Time, GMT+1). I would be playing Daquan. Have not figured out vassas though...

if somone could write a tootorial or someting it would be nice :)

I'll have to get familiar with Vassal, but will give it a try. I will play Waiqar. Central US, like @ tgall.

I am interested in playing as well, and would want to do Uthuk. I am in Eastern US, so GMT -4.

I am interested in playing as the Uthuk Y'llan.

Hey everyone ... time to bump the topic and point out we're just about at last call!

8 players so far and I'm busy working on the module so hopefully those of you who have signed up are starting to think about your lists!

I’ll play.

Latari for me!

Alright gang we're up to 10 (tho we'll hold the door open a bit). On my side of things I'll get the Uthuk support done by this weekend. Start thinking about your lists!

I'll get 0.7.4 of the vassal module out early this week so you can yell at me if some unit type isn't supported that you want. I'll note that announced new Heros probably won't be legal for this once since A) I need to put them and in B) we don't have dials for all of them.

We'll use the current tournament deployments and missions for this one.

Oh man, I just realized it's a tournament, so you pick one list and stick with it. The stress of picking the right list is REAL! I've narrowed it down to 2 or 3 candidates, so I'm almost ready!

I'd like to join as latari, GMT+1

Have made about ten lists andstill cant decide. hard to decide what kind of list is going to be a good alarounder... :) After I look over the lists and think i have decided not to take one, my mind goes: But what if [insert opponent or situation] would not this one list fitt more aganinst it?

The smaller your collection, the easier it is to build a list. But then, I just added 4 expansions recently ...

Alright everyone! 0.7.4 is out which includes the Uthuk support. I'll keep hacking on this over the weekend but be aware I'm not planning on doing major unit additions. (Tho I'm happy to entertain requests, not to mention bug reports like missing a card or something like that)

Let's get our lists together so please post below!

Should we PM them to you so that people don't counter-build? Then you can just copy and paste them after you've received all the lists? (A little more work for you, though.)

Alternatively, we just forget that counter-building is a thing.

Yes that makes the most sense.

Which does? PM-ing you, or forgetting about the issue of counter building? ;)

Just message / email / PM it to me. I'll compile and post all at once.
