Nah, in multiplayer, this province only counts its controller's claimed rings.
QuoteWhen a card or game effect refers to one or more claimed or unclaimed rings, it only refers to the ring or rings in the unclaimed ring pool or on the provinces of the controller of the card effect, or by the player resolving the game effect. This rule does not apply to cards that specifically call out rings in an opponent’s claimed ring pool.
Ah... good!
but still very good card when you have 3 claimed rings!

True. But they stay claimed in Enlightenment.
Big Oni and Maho - As a story player that hasn't won squat, I'd like to remind everyone that these nicely powered cards WILL be noticed by the Story Team when they start winning events.
Also, movement tricks to get around that forced honor loss. Tier 1 Tainted Unicorn, here we come.

True. In duel, its strength will be reset each round and grow over the course of the round. In Enlightenment, its strength will likely grow over the course of the game. In both cases, the minimum and maximum strength are the same (5 and 10, respectively).
Now we are talking. Good old Kuni Yori is back in the game
His art is fantastic. I like that we are more closer to a real Crab Kuni Shugenja deck now.

For real. The sinister wording in this article about the cost of victory, plus the hints I've seen dropped about honor and dishonor mattering more at tournaments, plus plus that the FFG L5R tournament software track most honorable means that the OP team will definitely be tracking this sorts of stuff for consequences.

Need Hitomi to actually get the ball rolling by maiming Yakamo so he has a benefit to present to Kisada to get the things started.

Erf, that Phoenix province is ROUGH.
Kuni Yori is super strong, though the meta everywhere is still "LOL BID 5", so it won't make THAT much of a difference yet.
Spreading the Darkness is a crazy Banzai for 1 more honor.
Thematically, being able to assassinate an Oni makes me laugh. For shame auto bowing the Oni makes me laugh too from a thematic standpoint. Or that Charge/movement effects to get it into the conflict (you only take the loss when he ASSIGNS) thematically make no sense. Unicorn see the most of it with Saddle, Seal, Favored Mount, Dispatch, Tadaji, Tatsuo, and our core set stronghold.
Upholding Authority seems sort of meh. Though with the Bid 5 meta, it can be pretty killer since players are bound to have multiple copies of a card by turn 2.
The 1 fate +0/+3 attachment seems OK.

As much as I would LOVE to run these cards, with how prevalent Dishonor has been in the environment, running cards with an honor cost seems like a bad idea, thereby making these kinda unplayable. IMHO, anyway.

Says the Clan with the Windswept Yurt....

That's kinda my point. Yurt a desperately necessary card, and even then the honor pressure is super real.
And let's not start with the low blows, eh? What is this Mantis clan of which you speak? Never heard of it...
Think Lion will go Earth role next round?![]()

Sorry it took so long, I was changing my pants................because I spilled Mtn. Dew on them when I did a spit-take after seeing this spoiler. Get your mind out of the gutter people.
Yori, a Maho spell, and an Oni.............I don't even know where to start on how happy I am.
First I have to commend FFG for making cards that evoke memories of the CCG. The Maho spell reminds me somewhat of Deadly Ground and this certainly makes me want to be on the look out for as many "sneak attack" type of effects I can find.
Yori has been ported over quite nicely. Discard was his original thing thing, so that reminds me a lot of the old game.
Oni, Oni, Oni........... is probably going to be how I start just about every deck once this is released. Nothing special, and quite honestly it gets wrecked by a bunch of cards that are quite common in the meta, but, I care not. I'll be cramming straighten effects and move in and anything else I can to make this guy work, until better shadowlands cards come along to replace him.
In the immortal words of Ice Cube.........
"Marauding Oni even showed up to say hey..........I gotta say it was a good day"
Pretty sure that's how the song goes
While I can't speak on behalf of FFG--I'm only a freelancer--or the other writers, I know that I'll certainly be taking a peek at what was in a winning deck if its relevant to something I've been assigned to write. That doesn't necessarily mean it will end up having any particular influence (because, ultimately, it may just not have a place in the story and, in any case, FFG has the final word on the content of their fiction, of course!) but, yeah...interesting things in a winning deck can provide equally interesting fodder for storytelling ☺️
Man, those cards look pretty cool! Kuni Yori especially captures his Old5R essence very nicely
The only thing that would make me happier to see the Shadowlands back is a Dragon Aligned Togashi Kokujin
I've already go several Oni decks drafted up........and while I find it thematically silly to attach a Finger of Jade to an Oni, you best believe I'm gonna do it so I don't get completely hosed by assassination after losing honor for assigning.

Yeah not to sound like buzz kill but I feel like the on I should be no attachments. But I also think it should be higher glory because it don't give a **** about Phoenix shenanigans

Ruin or make better?
I seriously love how he supports our dishonor game. Although with the Mantis Air Shugey I'm tempted to run 6 4+ cost guys. I wonder if this is what if feels like to be Phoenix.
Also, I'm down with Crab getting a super Banzai that we can play multiple copies of in the same conflict.

I could see that, just for the thematic wonkiness that can occur with certain attachments. I'm sure we'll see some that end up with that limitation. For now, I'll just have to consider Clouding the Oni's mind so it won't force me to lose honor. lol
Probably have to run Scorpion to recoup some honor and for Duty to go all in on the honor loss.............which is the clan that my original Shadowlands deck ended up with at the start of the game. Granted it's no Ruined Fortress of the Scorpion Clan, but, maybe this is a sign that history will end up repeating itself.

Spreading the Darkness is serious business, but, losing that much honor could be an issue.............
If that's the path you decide to take, I'll gladly welcome you to the dark side.
