Arc-Dodgers Through History

I've been looking recently at the hyper-responsive ships of the game recently, in particular those of extremely high PS. Whether you're talking about pre-nerf Advanced Sensors Echo or Miranda, there's a lot of tricks in the collective X-wing bag. They're largely the worst design decisions in X-wng history, but being on the good side of a higher PS ace like Kylo is a great experience even if it's a hollow victory. So here's a send off to the most manoeuvrable aces in the game's history, in chronological order:

Soontir Fel: Boost + Barrel roll is really strong! It's probably going to be a unique ability...

Pre-Nerf Engine Upgrade, PTL, Advances Sensors Echo: This is... stupid! If PWTs didn't exist this guy would be ridiculous!

Dash!: Might as well remove obstacles from the core set. Large ship barrel rolls were also a well-informed decision.

Control Bots: Large bases doing pre-movement boosts!

Miranda: SLAM is the new boost, plus it doesn't even take an action.

Kylo Ren: Pre-movement boost and barrel roll, also you're going to become PS 0 no matter what you try to do.

So there you go - a highlight reel of what each of the most manoeuvrable ships in the game can accomplish. I'm not quite sure which of these is best - Echo's pre-nerf decloak is absurdly good, but so is the natural curvy barrel roll of the Starviper. Gunboats can get up to some crazy shenanigans, but are ultimately frail and low PS. Kylo's a beast, especially with all the green on his dial, but dies to anything PS 10 or higher. What do you think was the most busted arc-dodger in the game's history?

Advanced sensors ptl engine Corran is missing!

Honestly? Either Echo or, of all things, PTL EU Unhinged Dengar.

He didn't see as much prominence because mindlink and jumpmasters in general were just insane, but in terms of sheer manouverability, PTL + Boost + BR + Large Base + white s-loops just kept on being downright mental.

Adv. Slam K-wings get a dishonorable mention too, even if I kind of loved them.

Guri is far from busted; she can do stupid things but her low PS means you have to actually plan them, not do them reactively, which is good.

With Virago, she can, however, also equip a cloaking device. so those fractal-pattern end positions can start from one of three possible decloak positions!

Guri is awesome, but balanced and requires skill at low PS. Likewise Brobots.

I reckon Miranda A-Slam and Jumpmasters were the most NPE/Boring/broken.

I remember feeling special with my 1 hard turn and barrel roll! Those T-65s could never get a shot on me.

If turrets didn't exist, an Engine Upgraded VI Duchess is pretty messed up for movement possibilities. FAST.

Kylo's ability coupled with everything else he's got access to means he's the heavyweight champ in the history of x-wing. OutPS him? Go for it, just hit him once. You'll never do it again from PS0!

Echo was fun, but easy to out PS.

In terms of pure arc-dodging capability, I don’t think anything in the game could hold a candle to AdvS+PtL Kylo, especially with him being at PS 9 and putting ISYTDS in play. But he came into the game a good while after arcs stopped mattering, so he ended up not being too crazy.

Except not really. He doesn't control it, the condition goes on whoever hits him first, and if you don't land a crit the turn you apply it, it can bounce around their squadron. I had him put da Damaged Cockpit on Poe, but he didn't score a crit next turn and the next pilot to hit Kylo was Jess who was super unconcerned about being a 0. He'sa great arc dodger...would be cool if he also had a pilot ability.

Yep. That essentially PS 12 boost always throws people off.

While not broken by any means, Keyan + SOT + Adv. Sensors was pretty squirrely for a B-wing and an excellent knife fighter. Dial in a 1 straight. Adv. Sensor a barrel roll which ever direction is best, then Stay on Target to a hard 1 in the opposite direction. Then shoot and spend the stress. You could kind of act like a less maneuverable Phantom.
